There are so many things about Steve's character that has aged horribly to say the least.

He repeatedly went after (or depending on your point of view, harassed and stalked) Laura, who did not want him, he ignored Myra, who loved and accepted him for who he is for Laura, and he even went as far as to change himself into Stefan for Laura.

All in all, Steve Urkel embodied the type of man who felt entitled to certain types of women instead of dating women in their league. Plus, he lacked boundaries and couldn't accept people wanting nothing to do with him.

It is really interesting that 30 years ago, Steve was never meant to be a stalker.
But he was meant to be a sweet if tactless and determined nice guy.

But we should remember what Laura's supposedly more desirable boyfriends were like.
Highlights included:
One guy who was only interested in sex and had dumped Maxine when she said no to him.
One guy who was dumb enough to flirt with other girls while he was on a date with Laura.
One guy who was under the impression that he could control who her friends were.
Steve might have had some flaws too, but he was much more respectful than these jerks.
That said, I still agree that he should have given up on Laura and stayed with Myra...
