View Full Version : Who would have gotten the worst spanking?
julietx 10-31-2021, 12:49 AM When Katie cheats, the Chief takes off his belt and chases her. If Nel had not intervened, Katie would have gotten spanked. When Samantha uses the "N" word, the Chief tells her that she is going to get a spanking. She manages to escape, and the spanking doesn't happen. If both had been spanked, who do you think would have gotten it worse? I say Samantha. She used a racial slur, probably the worst racial slur there is. The Chief was furious with her. He was mad at Katie too, but he seemed madder at Samantha. She knew that she was in trouble. She took off running as soon as she said it. If the Chief had gotten a hold of her before she made it to the bathroom, he would have torn her tail up!
Wawwie 10-31-2021, 01:34 AM The chief actually did hit Julie in the episode "Julie Smokes." As for Katie and Samantha, I don't know who would have gotten it worse. I did not like the chief. I thought he was a sucky father. Even his own dad threatened him to stay away from Julie when she left home to stay with her grandpa. Grandpa knew that the chief's corporal punishment crap was horrendous. The chief also made some uncalled for gay "jokes" from time to time and he was a sexist. I did not like him one bit.

You must remember that things were different in the 1980s. Kids were raised differently. Parents were different. Spanking was common then. Most kids were spanked back then. TV reflected the time period. No modern TV show would have a father taking off his belt. If they did, it would either be played for laughs or depicted as abuse. It certainly would not be depicted as proper parenting like it was in the 1980s. The Chief was a good father. He loved his daughters. He was just trying to teach them right from wrong. Dads were different back then. If a kid did something wrong, they got a spanking. The Chief was like many fathers in that time period.

Sexist and homophobic as well as well? I'm glad my father wasn't like that in the '80s

He wasn't all that sexist. As for homophobic jokes, those too were acceptable back then. We can't judge this show based on modern standards.

Who's judging the show based on "modern standards"? At any time, the chief had serious flaws. That's based on humanity, not time.
Wake up. The chief was very sexist. He refused to promote a woman on the force solely because she's a woman. He even said so. That's sexist. Also, his gay "jokes" that he told in the presence of his homosexual police partner during a stakeout were very inappropriate.

You're entitled to your opinion, same as I am. This wasn't even what my original post was about anyway.

Hey Juliet!
I'm not a fan of the Chief's use of corporal punishment. Yes, both girls did the wrong thing, for sure. But these punishments feel over the top.

We don't know how often he actually used it. He doesn't end up spanking them on these occasions. I think we can assume that he did spank them some in the past. In one episode, Samantha makes the comment, "It's murder when he spanks you". He may have sometimes just used his hand and not the belt. On the occasions in question, he had planned to use his belt. I have been on the receiving end of the belt before. It hurts! I see why Katie and Samantha ran and why Samantha took off in the squad car, lol.
charlie_voy 11-07-2021, 03:24 AM Samantha might have gotten it worse because the disrespect was so outrageous, but both of them deserved the belt.
I was a kid in the 80s when this show was on and my mother's implement of choice was a wooden spoon or paddle. That sure hurt!

Samantha most definitely needed her butt spanked. She was so disrespectful to Nell in saying the "N" word. She knew what she was saying was wrong. Nell should have let the Chief deal with Samantha the way he wanted to.
counrfk 05-02-2023, 09:56 AM Samantha deserved it more. I'm not saying that Katie cheating was right, but she at least had somewhat of an understandable motive. Samantha was just outright disrespectful. She needed her butt spanked. Nell should have let the Chief spank her. She obviously didn't learn her lesson because a couple of years later she dresses Joey in blackface.
