Do any of you find Major Healey's behavior toward just about every single pretty girl to be offensive? And often creepy. That guy would be fired in an instant in today's world for sexual harassment.

View Full Version : Major Healey's character hasn't aged well... Chocolate Moose 11-02-2021, 04:49 PM many of the sitcoms around that time had that problem!!! merlinjones 11-02-2021, 06:55 PM Bill Dailey is awesome and his comedic slapstick bits with Larry Hagman are wonderful, understated - and vastly underrated. Love the character of Roger Healey! Dick York was Darrin 11-07-2021, 02:14 PM I'm far from a wokester, but I find the character's behavior creepy as f#ck. merlinjones 11-07-2021, 02:40 PM Comedy is about laughing at our foibles, IMHO. If there are no flaws to caricature, there is no satire. CAJeannieFan57 01-15-2022, 07:01 PM Going back to the comedy between Healey (Bill Daily) and Nelson (Larry Hagman), there's a known story there. Larry did not like the idea of "talking heads", no matter how funny the lines were (or weren't) So he and Bill would come up with their own physical comedy moves and put them into the episodes. It caused issues between Larry and at least one director, but it all worked, as you might say. Bill told me once (yes, I've met him on many occasions before he left us) that one of the most fun things about IDOJ was working out that comedy and rehearsing with Larry Hagman. You can't enjoy any of the 60's series without checking 2021 attitudes at the front entrance. kentauros 01-19-2022, 11:05 AM Exactly! Some people might consider me dated by the fact that I like some of the Lounge / Bachelor Pad music Roger had playing sometimes. For all who love the "music of the 60s" and never get beyond the rock/folk of the time period, there's the Lounge and Jazz genres, which are quite rich with beautiful music. Both genres are still produced today, though Jazz has changed considerably. If you want to listen to modern Lounge with the old mixed in, here are two channels at the online radio station soma fm (https://somafm.com): Illinois Street Lounge (https://somafm.com/illstreet/) Classic bachelor pad, playful exotica and vintage music of tomorrow. About the Music on Illinois Street Lounge Bachelor-pad music for sipping cocktails and dressing swanky in your mid-century-modern home. Vintage lounge music and exotica that was way ahead of its time. Settle down in your Eames chair, imagine you pressed play on your Reel-to-Reel tape deck and enjoy. Secret Agent (https://somafm.com/secretagent/) The soundtrack for your stylish, mysterious, dangerous life. For Spies and PIs too! About the Music on Secret Agent An eclectic blend of cinematic downtempo, stylish lounge, sambas and easy-tempo sixties European pop music with an adventurous flair. Artists you'll hear include Piero Piccioni, De-Phazz, Seks Bomba, Shirley Bassey, Henry Mancini, William Orbit, Yoshinori Sunahara, Martin Denny and Walter Wanderly. Fallon97 01-27-2022, 06:26 PM No. I didn't find anything offensive or creepy. Screwy Wabbit 10-27-2025, 11:44 PM Come on. You don't think it happened in more recent shows? Think about Howard in The Big Bang Theory. He always hit on every pretty girl. Or the leering Dan Fielding in Night Court? |
