View Full Version : Overplayed songs that should be retired by radio stations
SarahBellum 10-29-2021, 11:42 AM Here are a few of my suggestions:
Hotel California - Eagle
Jack and Diane - John Mellencamp
Eye of the Tiger - Survivor
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
What else?
HuntingtonM15 10-29-2021, 12:30 PM Okay, I can't think of anything to add right now but I totally agree with all of these--especially the last two.
GentlemanJim 10-29-2021, 12:36 PM Hip to be Square - Huey Lewis
Urgent and I want to know what Love is - Foreigner
What About Love? - Heart
Night Moves and Mainstreet - Bob Seger
Just the Way you Are and Still Rock and Roll to me - Billy Joel
1960'sTVfan 10-29-2021, 01:10 PM I don't listen to the radio for music anymore, haven't done that in many years, I have a collection of vinyl records and CD's that I enjoy whenever I want to hear some music. But I agree that some stations over play certain songs and they should change things up a little.

On the subject of Foreigner, I think that band pretty much went into decline after the 4th album, but those first four albums are good, Double Vision being the weakest of the lot because that one has a few filler tunes that I don't care for too much.

Sacrilege
If we’re sticking to classic rock, how about Stairway To Heaven? Even people who haven’t been born yet have heard Stairway To Heaven to overkill.

Yeah, I pretty much agree. Except my enjoyment for the band pretty much evaporated after Head Games.. Jukebox Hero might be an exception to that... But most of the stuff after Head Games I can't believe is from the same band that did the first album.
GentlemanJim 10-29-2021, 02:01 PM We've got a station here locally that like 90% of what they play is
Billy Joel
Heart
Foreigner (late)
Huey Lewis
Bob Seger
John Mellencamp
Queen
And they used to insist that we listen only to that station at work, because it was considered "customer safe", meaning they didn't have ads or editorial content that was explicitly adult in nature.
And it got to where it made me gag..
SarahBellum 10-29-2021, 02:35 PM Here in Cleveland, there are a few stations that play Billy Joel excessively, especially Piano Man.
DJM77 10-29-2021, 04:05 PM I've been forced to listen to the radio at work for many years. I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned "Don't Stop Believin" by Journey. That's the most overplayed song on the radio in my opinion.

Yes, absolutely! I cannot stomach listening to that song anymore.

A few months ago I had a Nirvana shirt on and a teenage girl approached me and asked if that was Dave Grohl. I said yes and she’s like “What’s Nirvana?”
In my head I’m going :shocked but I said it was the band he was in before Foo Fighters.
icecream 10-29-2021, 11:32 PM Santa Baby
most songs from The Rolling Stones and Aretha Franklin- I do like Ruby Tuesday but that doesn't get played much anyway.
icecream 10-30-2021, 01:30 PM The Regents' version of Barbara Ann sucks, 2nd time I have heard it on the oldies station the last few weeks. Just stick with playing Beach Boys' Barbara Ann!
KurtfromPitts 11-03-2021, 10:44 AM More Than a Feeling-Boston, Don't Go Breaking My Heart-Elton John/Kiki Dee.

About Teenagers being musically clueless, during the peak of Jesse McCartney's short-lived Fame, remember Jesse? That Pop Star was Popular for about two years before fading into obscurity. An Adult said he told a Teenager his favorite Singer is Paul McCartney. The Teenager asked the Adult, "Who is Paul McCartney? Is Paul Jesse's Dad?" The Adult said he damn near cried!

I was also thinking something along those lines. Foo Fighters aren't overrated. If she said Red Hot Chili Peppers, I would agree, but Foo Fighters are definitely not overrated
icecream 12-01-2021, 09:24 PM Bob Dylan's Like a Rolling Stone- I like Bob even less than the Rolling Stones.
