The Andy Griffith Show was the first spin-off in TV history. But Andy became a lot more famous than its parent show The Danny Thomas Show. While most shows in broadcast syndication are from the 21st century now, the Andy Griffith hour at noon has been going strong on my FOX affiliate for a long time. Andy Griffith starred as Sheriff Andy Taylor and Don Knotts played his deputy/best friend Barney Fife. Don added so much to the black and white seasons that the color era suffered without him. Also starring Ron Howard as Andy's son Opie Taylor and Frances Bavier as Andy's Aunt Bee. Jim Nabors played a popular supporting character Gomer Pyle who got his own spin-off. The Andy Griffith Show aired 8 seasons on CBS from 1960-1968, the first five of those seasons the excellent black and white era.
Who's the Boss? starred Tony Danza as the male housekeeper to a woman (Judith Light). Tony Micelli's daughter Samantha was played by Alyssa Milano. Angela Bower's mother Mona was played by Katherine Helmond, and Angela's son Jonathan was played by Danny Pintauro. Who's the Boss? aired 8 seasons on ABC from 1984-1992.
