It's a generation compared to how life was in the 70s. Is this show considered outdated now?

Everything other than iphones and streaming services are outdated in 2020, but it's a good show anyway

My son (age 30) just started watching it on TV One or Get TV, I'm not sure which one but he thinks it's funny, so even if people think it's outdated, it's still enjoyable to watch.

I am 55 years old and watched this show since childhood and its still the most hilarious show of all time. The show is 50 years old this year.

Agreed, the show is 50 years old, how could it not be dated. The term dated should not be applied in the manner the original posted used it. A show that's dated would be a show that seemed old fashioned or recycled when it was originally aired. An example of a show that was dated when it was out was Here's Lucy, running from 68-74, but having the feel of a series from the late 50's-early 60's era.

I'm glad there are shows that dont look like today. I know I sound old, but I'm gen X, more of a cusp baby between gen x and millennials ~1980~

But I dunno why everything has to look so damn TODAY lol Lets redo all the McDonald's so they don't look like the happy places we knew as kids and make them all look like metal box spaceships, b/c WTH plays outside anymore, who uses COLOR!! anymore!? I literally heard someone say that, "It's 2022 and you want COLOR?!" Grrrr :mad: Now people are picking on Burger King because they haven't UPDATED, they still "think we're in the 1980s!" Lets shut down all theaters and just sit home and stream movies!!

To me, Here's Lucy doesn't have the feel of a late 50's/early 60's series, it has the feel of a series from the era when it was made, late 60's/early 70's.

Sanford and Son on a few occasions (maybe four or five) have used the so called "N-word", a racial slur. But in two instances, one when Lamont and Fred in traffic court and Fred questioning the cop, and Esther's response on Grip telling her that Lamont is his son, got the biggest and longest laughs from the audience, and this is saying something.

I do know Sanford and Son is still shown, but do not know if these episodes are edited out. I hope not, but YouTube has not done this and shouldnt.

I don't know about outdated, but I think TV comedies from the 1960's and 1970's were more polished and clever because many of them were filmed in front of a live audience as opposed to the annoying laugh track that is added to today's sitcoms. My son doesn't enjoy older sitcoms because he doesn't understand the cultural references behind the jokes. That's probably the same reason I don't enjoy today's sitcoms like The Big Bang Theory, which is absolutely boring to me.

Sanford and Son and All in the Family were stage shows. The laughter and applause was real. I have never (and would like to) been to a live performance, but Sanford and Son at least twice (Stienberg and Son and The Gong Show episodes) had the characters in the studio audience of their own shows. So at least for these two programs, the laughter was real. At least with the Stienberg and Son episode it was the most real to life to what a real taping was like, a character would flub a line and the director made them do it again.
