I been on this board on few times and there are alot of negative threads here. There is a thread about Desi being gay, Lucy being a slut, and Lucy being racist. Why is this? I thought we were all fans?

LUCILLE BALL 07-18-2002, 05:41 PM Who knows maybe there are spys from the National Enquirer here. Most of thses assumptions come from those tabloids. Too many outlandish things. I guess sometimes curiosity peaks, but it went in the wrong direction. I am not saying that Lucy was loose but I do think she had a past and that is all I am saying. The other two assumptions like Desi being gay, and Lucy being racist are just jiberish assumptions. In other words fiction and ignorance. dawsongirl 07-18-2002, 09:30 PM Every story had two sides to it. That other side isn't always squeaky clean. LucyFan 07-19-2002, 02:20 AM Originally posted by dawsongirl Every story had two sides to it. That other side isn't always squeaky clean. Great Piont Dawsongirl! :) There's a "good" side and a "not-so-good" side to every story. It is the readers/listeners job to pick and choose what material he/she finds the most accurate. dawsongirl 07-19-2002, 02:33 PM Thanks. I mean, as much as we may love Lucy, we all know she wasn't perfect and there were things about her life that were less flattering than others. Like LucyFan said, we just want to sort out the truth from the rumors. LUCILLE BALL 07-19-2002, 05:47 PM I guess you have a point there. well I know one of those thing is true. Because I was told by someone close it was. The other two I cannot conceive. But i probably respect her more for overcoming it. I think one day it will get out to the public for real and then I wonder what people will think. But I will tell you this, Did you ever notice that in all the tours she took throughout the country in her life she maybe went to Jamestown three times. That should give you the first clue. I wish I had more info, because I am very curious, I guess I am lucky that I was given the info I was given. Janice 07-19-2002, 06:55 PM [i]There is a thread about Desi being gay, Lucy being a slut, and Lucy being racist. Why is this? I thought we were all fans? [/B] I think that message boards are meant to discuss the show and its characters, actors, etc. Nobody's perfect, and that includes celebrities. I've encountered people on boards who get offended when something negative is written (not you). Censorship takes the fun out of everything. The thing to remember is that these are discussion boards, and not tribute boards. LUCILLE BALL 07-19-2002, 11:34 PM I know.... Like I said I would love to find out if anyone knows anymore about what I know, but when all is said and done you end up having to finish the discussion in 100 pm.s or emails. That is a lot of typing and pasting. Then once in a while a "Mystery Person" comes along, someone who may have known her and you like bite your tongue. That happened on another site I am a member on. Oh wel C'est la vie cubsfan1060 07-23-2002, 05:36 PM I happen to feel the same way as the other members. The thing is that since I am seeing all these topics about Lucy and Desi being such haters really gets my worried. I try really hard not to worry, but still it plays over and over like a freakin' Britney Spears song! Because of this, I am beginning to lose my patience and my intrests in watching this show. Also, because I am sick of hearing about T.V. Land's ways of airing this show. Finally, I enjoy other shows than just ILL all the time. There are other shows that are just as big hits as ILL like Valerie, Night Court, the Cosby SHow,etc. Still, this feeling might go away. WHen you look back at these stars, you hear the following: 1.)Valerie Harper gets in a big fight over a script, leading to a name change in her show to the Hogan Family. 2.)Harriette Winslow goes from Perfect Strangers to Family Matters. 3.)Lucy and Desi break up 4.)William Frawley's contract claims to have him say that he hated Vivian Vance so much that he would not let his alcholic hands touch her. 5.)The Hogan Family moves to CBS 6.)Lucy is accused of being a communist 7.)I Love Lucy was to end in the fall of 1956. However, it goes to May of 1957. Why can't we hear better things out of these stars? I thought I would enjoy, not just ILL, but ILL's stars. I never imagined that Lucy and Desi would split. Of course, I heard that Desi loved to smoke. Fred Mertz, I think had a drinking problem. Vivian, I think was depressed. WHy did these things happen?licht16.bmp. And I read some of your other comments on this and my point is that it seems that there is apoint where a love lets go. With enough help, and confidence, we get much closer, and share memories, and finally get back to our old selves again. It happens with every show. There is a thread about Desi being gay, Lucy being a slut, and Lucy being racist. Why is this? I thought we were all fans? Some of us who are fans admire Lucille Ball for the great work she did that nobody else could do better. But we still recognize that she was a person, not a goddess. Young Lucille Ball was a very wild woman and did things that would shock some. But she was certainly no racist. There is too much evidence against that for there to be any truth to it. As for Desi being gay, I don't think so. I think he was capable of experimenting with anything and probably did, but that doesn't mean he was gay. cubsfan1060 07-23-2002, 11:32 PM As Theo Huxtable would say,"JaneTVFan, I heard what you say, and I see your point." By the way, that was from the Cosby Show pilot episode. I happen to be in the same shoes as Theo when he brought home a report card with 4 D's! The only thing is that I do accept Lucy for who she is. Not because of her younger life, but because she was a favorite back when T.V. was T.V. Besides, we are "regular people." Cliff:"No wonder you get D's in everything. That is because you do not try. Now you are going to try and you are going to try BECAUSE I SAID SO. I am your father, I brought you in this world and I will take you out." Cliff:"I love you son" Theo:"I know dad. I love you too." Cliff:"Maybe, maybe, your mother loves you too." About all else I said, I am sorry for mentioning because I had a bad day earlier. My girlfriend was nagging at me for kissses! Oh well. I never imagined that Lucy and Desi would split. They were people, REAL people. I LOVE LUCY was not real. It always had a happy ending, or at least a funny ending. Real life is not like that at all. We can't expect Lucy and Desi's life to be like that of their fictitious TV counterparts who had nothing to do with reality. You're going to be disappointed with about any TV star if you start believing their life if like their TV character's life. Lucy came from a screwed up family. Sorry folks, but it's the truth. Dede was a terrible mother who pretty much neglected both of her children. Lucy's father died before she was barely old enough to remember him. Her stepfather couldn't stand Lucy or her brother (he didn't like kids), so he doesn't really deserve to even be called stepfather. So she never really knew what it was to have a father. Or a real mother, for that matter. Lucy's grandfather was a kook. Lucy's mother and stepfather moved out of state and didn't want to deal with Lucy and her brother, so she split them up and sent Lucy to live with a stepgrandmother who didn't show her an ounce of love. In spite of what she said later in life and may have wanted to believe, Lucy's childhood was far from ideal. She never had a real parent. She had no decent role model in her life. And she basically had to raise herself. She didn't do such a hot job raising herself, but who would? Lucy got into lots of trouble when she was young and did things she shouldn't have done. But look at any kid with her kind of background (no role models, no real parent), they always get into trouble. They usually wind up in jail. With her background, Lucy should have wound up in jail, but she didn't. We can give her credit for that. In an odd way, I think it's only because of these bad things in her life that she had the drive and determination she had to become a star. I know that Lucy didn't have the easiest life, and Lucy herself wasn't perfect. I don't think I even admire Lucy as a comedic legend as much as how she was raised in the bad stuff, but still had a good sense of humor. You just take the good and the bad, you know? We should talk about an equal amount of both. Talk about the good things that Lucy did and how she is still a legend and still manages to rack up fans to this day, but also talk about the bad and how we feel about how she handled certain situations. Sorry if my post didn't make that much sense toward the end. Just my 2 cents... cubsfan1060 07-24-2002, 05:09 PM Jenny, nice comments. Luckilly, I got a scare for second because my annoying girlfriend's name is Jenny too. Anyway, I also think it is best talk about both good and bad things too. Barnabas1 07-29-2002, 08:34 PM Well......Did everyone forget the big fights last year? I hope so! |
