Were seasons 7 and 8 the worst?

Not pure garbage, but not as good as earlier seasons. I do like the final theme song, and the episodes in which Kimberly appears.

They were ok but you could tell they were running out of ideas.

They weren’t bad at all. They were still good.

I have always thought the earlier seasons were the best, the first four in particular. Seasons 5 and 6 were still good but the last two years were terrible, in my opinion of course, someone else could say the later ones were the best. Sam and Maggie brought nothing to the show, Willis and Kimberly disappeared, Pearl and Mr. Drummond faded into the background and Gary Coleman was visibly tired. Without the original cast, the whole premise of the show (two Harlem brothers live with a rich white father, a rich white sister and a housekeeper) was destroyed. And the fact that they made Sam a mini Arnold, with the same personality and the same plots, was the final nail in the coffin.

I also like the updated theme/opening for season 8. But the problems with season 8: a few bad scripts (the Sam kidnapping was too far out of the realm of believability, for example), the mis-casting of Mary Ann Mobley (her emoting in that episode was really hard to take, as an example), plus a show that was by that time a far cry from its original concept.

Some good things in 8: yes, Kimberly's guesting in a few episodes, notably the bulimia episode (apart from the seriousness of the topic, there was actually some good comedy in that one), and the episode where Arnold hires the hood when he gets a bad report card (I think that's the plot--I just remember the hood guy was great casting).

Although season 7 could also be said to be far from the original concept, I didn't consider it to be bad, mostly because I think Dixie Carter was great in her part. Too bad she and Coleman were at odds and she left the show.

When Mr. Drummond got married it sort of felt like the end.

Season 7 and 8 were okay. The new theme song should have happened in season 6 (1983-1984) at the Same time Gimme A Break! Updated theirs. The first version went on too long.

Season 8 leaves unanswered questions. One being the relationship with Arnold and Lisa. Would they have made them a couple? I think season 9 would have focused on this with Arnold. Lisa was a good character and she stuck around a long time. It was nice to see how her character and Arnold kissed in her last episode and were friendly and who knows what could have happened has the show returned one more season.

Only the last season since it was on a new network with a weird looking set

I'm not sure if I'm on season 6 or 7 today, Dixie Carter is still on the show, the theme song is updated, and Sam dominated the episode, the one where Sandy Squirrel got his television show cancelled, to be replaced by Maggie's workout show.

All in all, a pleasant show, though nothing special.

The theme song didn't get updated until season 8 and Dixie Carter was off the show by then.

I'm really new to the show, and the theme song was going through my head last night while posting here.

This morning when the show came on, it sounded different than how I imagined it sounding.

I'm looking forward to hearing the "new"version soon.

The second episode today, not so much.

Sam had joined a Boy or Cub Scout troop and... well that's all I remember about it.

Boring, to say the least.

They're ok, but you have to like Sam.

I wish that more episodes were focused on Willis rather than the Sam/Arnold dynamics.

So far, I'm not that fond of Sam.
