I'm not sure, but Wally's service station would have to have made its debut around that time also, which is what I'm thinking about today, specifically, how close was Wally's to downtown Mayberry?

Most episodes put Wally's a little ways out of town, which in real time it was, out by the creek across the street from the Real McCoys farm and later Gomer's Marine base.

Yet, in at least one color episode it's depicted as being much closer as Opie is seen running from his yard to (by then Goobers) service station in seconds, as if the service station is just around the block.

Obviously, camera trickery for the script, but was the distance from Wally's to say the Courthouse ever given?

In Man in a Hurry episode, while Goober is working on Malcolm Tucker's car, Gomer runs from Wally's to Andy's house at least once, maybe twice, to let Tucker know what's happening. So the distance from Wally's to Andy's house couldn't have been very far. And Andy's house was apparently just a short walk from the courthouse since Opie and Aunt Bee were always popping in.

I think the location of Andy's house in Mayberry is the same as in the real world Forty Acres, but, yes, Wally's filling station must be located closer in Mayberry than the actual location of the set.
