View Full Version : The Soup Bowl
Stepperry40 10-08-2021, 12:15 PM Beaver in the beginning knew there was no soup in the but yet Whitey was able to get Beaver to climb up to check. Just silly and Beaver still I would expected him even 11 or what ever his age was when Whitey basically dared to climb the sign.
I wasn't so much ( or at all really ) about the presence of soup. It was about Beaver ( yet again ) succumbing so readily to the challenge of a dare in an attempt to ward off ( yet again! ) any accusations of cowardice, being "chicken", or backing down from a challenge.
Larry, Gilbert, Whitey, and Richard all had Beaver's number; and they damned well knew it.

Does June or Ward ever use the "if they told you to jump off a bridge" line on Beaver?

I believe I've heard them say so, though I've got a cognitive block in my mind just now of which episode(s).
As a kid I know I've had it used on me by authority figures. Of course, being a kid without the benefit of hindsight, I just never knew how stale or trite that admonition was.

Notice how the line got crossed for Beaver when Whitey called him chicken. Now were he not "naive Beaver" he could have said, Whitey, you say you know there's soup in there, and I know there isn't. You started this, YOU'RE chicken!
And yes they all had his number. Beaver yells, What a stupid kid you are, Whitey. He mumbles knowingly, Yeah, I'm stupid.

Yeah, that's a great sarcastic "burn" by Whitey.

Whitey might have been stupid, beaver, but he wasn't the one in the soup bowl.
vitoscotti 10-08-2021, 07:55 PM It was unrealistic how Ward & June welcomed friends who screwd Beaver over with open arms to remain as their sons freinds. If some kid screws a kid over multiple times kids will wash their hands of the buddy, and move on. Ward, June , and Beaver always wiped the slate clean. Not realistic. People hold grudges. Especially taking advantage of their possibly mentally challenged son.

I was trying to figure out when or if there was a stunt double for Mathers during the climb. And when the probably-unplanned foot slip happened, was it the double or Mathers?
In his book Mathers says there were two billboards built: one on location and one on the soundstage, which probably contributed to this being the most expensive episode in the series. So maybe we see the double doing the climb on one billboard and Mathers on the other. It was well-filmed so it's really hard to tell.
