Recently on one of my local Diginets I tuned in to a mini-marathon featuring this old show (1957-1958), featuring Betty White. Which was her second gig in a recurring role TV series.

I'm guessing that the program must be another one of those with expired rights/ public domain.....and it's really not very good. But I enjoyed watching for the "rare mileage" opportunity. And, since it was a mini-marathon, it gave me a chance to see in short order familiar faces thru various guest appearances, of people I recognized, but really could not associate a name with.

I remember my mom back in the 1960's was not a fan of Betty White, and could never figure out what Betty had done to earn mom's disapproval. But now I know. At least as a central character she was somewhat aloof, as well as a ham. She could easily have been a "Bronson" from the LITB clan.

I had figured that back about 12-15 years ago, when the 'tv-on-dvd' trend was at its hottest, and White was flourishing in her senior-years renewed fame, that surely "Date With the Angels" would get officially remastered and made available on disc and even syndication. But, I suppose its public-domain status, and those commonly circulating prints worked against it.

Plus, who knows if the original film elements are safe and secure? The similarly vintage "Mr. Adams and Eve" apparently is long-lost. Usually items shot-on-film have a good chance at long time survival (compared to shot-on-tape material), but not always. Things get junked or perish in fires and such. Anyway, I'd hope "Date With the Angels" has good original source material somewhere, beyond those weak PD prints.

"Date With The Angels" was indeed Betty White's 2nd starring role in a TV series. Her first was in a show that you might have seen either on TV or on public domain DVD called "Life With Elizabeth" which wasn't much different from "Date With The Angels". I agree, I don't find her Date With Angel show funny at all, tedious? yes, funny?, no. Though I've only seen a couple episodes. But it was enough.

However her Life With Elizabeth show is hilarious. I laugh everytime I see this one. I wish I had all the episodes of it. It'd be great if they came out with a complete series DVD set of Life With Elizabeth.

A low powered station in Pittsburgh, WNEU-63 ran this show in the late '80s. All but one or two eps had the original opening title that mentioned Plymouth cars.

the local PBS station here in Philadelphia a couple times at Xmas showed a marathon of Xmas episodes of old sitcoms and dramas (I remember they showed a Xmas episode of a REALLY vintage sitcom called THE RUGGLES from-1949!!!:eek:) anyway; they showed a Xmas episode of DATE WITH THE ANGELS and later I saw a couple episodes on a cable station called Nostalgia (that dissapeared in the 90s) You're right; it wasn't very good.

i go the other way. I see Life with Elizabeth slow moving. As for Date with the Angels, I can't say I am rolling with laughter but I do find it has some plot.

If we're talking sitcoms then yes Date With the Angels was her 2nd program. Prior to Life with Elizabeth she had a daytime talk show with some skit comedy called The Betty White Show. That title was used again in the '70’s for a sitcom.
