When Seinfeld began in 1989 as The Seinfeld Chronicles many people thought it would simply become a one-hit wonder for NBC but then as luck would have it when the series was renamed Seinfeld in 1990 people were wrong as Seinfeld became an instant success in it's second season and with Jerry Seinfeld growing to be a successful stand-up comedian I think Seinfeld was really the show-saver for NBC's sitcoms. And it turned Jason Alexander from commercial star to mega superstar and casting him as Jerry's funny yet sometimes annoying best friend George Constanza helped Jason's talent soar and it made Michael Richards a superstar as well. And with it's mega fanbase Seinfeld became one of the most popular sitcoms of all time and countless celebrity guest stars helped make Seinfeld successful than ever. Even with new sitcoms Frasier Friends and Newsradio becoming huge on NBC Seinfeld managed to hold on and score huge ratings for NBC. And who can forget Seinfeld's funny moments and catchphrases that made it so great to watch such as the famous Frogger episode and the classic episode were George has his telephone answering machine set to the theme of The Great American Hero and the famous "yada yada yada" catchphrase. But when Seinfeld ended it's run I think it hurt NBC terribly because it was a successful show and I think had it decided to run another season NBC would've been happy with more success but once Seinfeld was over NBC moved on and focused on Friends. But after so long it's no secret that Seinfeld still ranks as the best sitcom of all time and with Seinfeld reruns still shown on TV newbies can see what made Seinfeld so great to watch
