TV Tropes has something like this called "Celebrity is Overrated" (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CelebrityIsOverrated). In a nutshell, it could be a case of an actor saying to themselves, that they've already made enough money, therefore they're now going to live in the private sector (or something else on a smaller, less intense and demanding scale), away from fame, fortune, and adulation of the entertainment industry.

They can fall into the falling categories, for why they would step away in the first place:

Pushing-middle-age actor: Wasn’t really that good an actor and ceased getting good offers, so decided to live on their savings for the moment and go into another business if it was necessary to make some money.

Child actor: Decided to get things done like college, marriage, having children, etc., so may decide to go back to acting later. It kind of works out fine for teen actors, but some of those stopped in their early 20s.

Middle-aged actor: Discovered that directing or writing movies is more interesting than acting in them, so took those kind of jobs with only occasional acting in addition.

Middle-aged actress: Was very popular until she reached a certain age (usually somewhere around 40), at which point she stopped getting good offers for movie or TV roles, so she started to do more stage work, or just retired entirely.

It could also simply be a case of a retiring actor merely getting old and quitting before they got bored and decided to take it easy.

Or in the case of a female star, she went off to have children and just wasn't interested in coming back. To add on that, they could be caught up in taking care of the family now the significant other/spouse has passed on.

There could also be cases of actors that dropped out due to ongoing issues of whatever nature such as when it pertained to their mental health. Or it was much harder for them to maintain their career due to having substance abuse issues or getting themselves "blackballed" for being difficult to work with.
