Chase's overall deal with HBO and HBO Max doesn't specifically mention The Sopranos, but it comes on the day that Chase's prequel movie The Many Saints of Newark is being released in theaters and on HBO Max. Chase has said in a recent interview he “might” be open to making a sequel to the film. “David Chase is one of the most gifted storytellers working in the film and television industry,” said Casey Bloys, chief content officer of HBO and HBO Max. “HBO has had a long and celebrated creative partnership with David, and this deal affords us a wonderful opportunity to continue this relationship at HBO and HBO Max.”

HBO Max is in talks with David Chase for a new series "related" to The Sopranos (https://deadline.com/2021/10/dune-matrix-sopranos-sequels-hbo-max-theatrical-model-1234859504/)

Even though Chase's Sopranos prequel movie The Many Saints of Newark was a recent box office bomb, HBO Max would very much like to revisit the world of The Sopranos -- but as a TV series, not a movie. “We’re thrilled with the results of Many Saints,” Warner Bros. CEO and chairman Ann Sarnoff tells Deadline. “Yes, the box office was not quite as big, but back again to the demographics of whose going to theaters. On the other hand, you see Sopranos pop into the top 10 of the most viewed series on the service. It’s given it an entirely new life. We’re talking to David about a new series Sopranos related on HBO Max. It’s (the movie) literally lifted the Sopranos franchise in a new way, so you can’t measure it in and of itself in the box office.” Chase recently signed a first-look deal with WarnerMedia (https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/sopranos-creator-david-chase-warnermedia-first-look-deal-many-saints-of-newark-1235078822/).
