View Full Version : Best FOL to Diff'rent Strokes Crossover
80s Dude 10-01-2021, 06:30 AM Best FOL Crossover Different Strokes episode.
That crossover episode of Facts of Life characters appearing in Different Strokes episode was your favorite? I am not counting the ones where Tootie replaced Arnold when Gary Coleman was in the hospital. I am only counting the ones with more than one character making an appearance.
80s Dude 10-01-2021, 07:34 AM My favorite is the Slumber Party. The characters are more developed than they were in The Girls School and it has Cindy in it.
FOL-FAN-ITA 10-01-2021, 07:48 AM I'd say "The Slumber Party". It's a great episode, I love the story and the boys vs. girls fight. It's probably the only crossover episode where the DS cast and the Facts girls interact with each other from the beginning to the closing credits, a true crossover like the ones with Hello, Larry, not just simple appearences like Tootie in season 4.
"The Older Man" is good too but we didn't see much of Blair and Natalie after the first couple of scenes.
I don't consider "The Girls School", since it was a backdoor pilot of a new show, the other crossovers occurred when Facts had already premiered on NBC

Same, mio amico.
RetroGuy2000 10-01-2021, 12:00 PM I would count "The Girls' School", and it's perhaps my favorite. I also very much enjoy "The Slumber Party". Further down the list is "The Older Man".

This is art imitates life. Dana Plato had a thing for older men. She tried to seduce a friend of Charlotte's. Could you see Kimberly hitting on Mr. Bradley in "Flash Flood"? She would have taken it literally.

Having Cindy in it is really great; Tootie, Natalie, and Molly, too. But there's no Sue Ann, no Nancy, and no Blair. And no Mrs. Garrett, no Mr. Bradley, and no Miss Mahoney. It's like getting Half of Life.
Still, it's better than "The Older Man", with just Natalie and Blair.

Yes, "The Slumber Party" may have Molly, Tootie, Cindy, and Natalie, but "The Girls' School" has Molly, Tootie, Nancy, Blair, Sue Ann, and Mrs. Garrett. Not to mention a crazy headmaster and 31, 33 Eastland girls!

Keeping The Crock would have resulted in a very different show: one where Mrs. Garrett was constantly putting out fires The Crock caused. While I enjoy The Girls' School" very much, he wasn't a serious administrator.

I don't like Crocker at all, he's too buffoon even for a sitcom. We can all agree the other headmasters are a lot more competent than him
RetroGuy2000 10-04-2021, 08:30 AM I don't like Crocker at all, he's too buffoon even for a sitcom. We can all agree the other headmasters are a lot more competent than him
Yes, he's definitely not competent. That would have been a very different show. Instead of rescuing Tootie and Blair, he would have said, "Who cares about the girls? My play is what matters!"

Well of course not! :)

I think that's such a unique crossover though. Very special.
RetroGuy2000 10-04-2021, 06:57 PM I love that: This time the older girls are left out! (says I, as the younger sibling, lol)
It is a rare instance of both Sue Ann and Blair being Nancied in a 1979-1980 episode. Not too many episodes can say that!
valentina warner 10-04-2021, 07:25 PM Am i the only one who liked the CROCK??? (I thought the guy was crazy, but even as a headmaster, him and MRS G would have been at each other throats ha ha!) I absolutely loved, how our 'feisty red head' handled him on the Pilot: that was always hilarious and as you all know, will forever remain as my top number one!!!!
Nevertheless, MR BRADLEY was my favourite headmaster of them all!
80s Dude 10-04-2021, 08:25 PM The Crock would have made the Facts of Life as corny as Different Strokes.
80s Dude 10-04-2021, 08:26 PM The Slumber Party aired just before the first episode of Season 1B aired. It reintroduced us to some of the girls.

Mrs. Garrett: Oh, there you are, Mr. Crockerrrr! I wanted to talk to you about those banned books!

My criteria was that more than one FOL character had to be on the Different Strokes episodes. Kim/Tootie replaced Arnold when Gary Coleman was in the hospital in those shows where Tootie appeared.

Really weird. I only remember Natalie. Well, it's been many years since I've seen that episode. Speaking of crossovers, I guess the only time Jo ever interacted with Arnold and Willis was on FOL when Blair ordered all that Countess whatever cosmetics. And the episode when they stole the school van and went to the bar, but there was no Willis in that one. Just Arnold.
RetroGuy2000 10-06-2021, 11:13 AM Was that one of the Croc's plays?
It actually was not. "The Older Man" aired in February 1981, so that was after both Crocker and Bradley had presumably left, and into Harris' run.
...Of course, it's possible that a few of the Crock's scripts were still being used at Eastland, but since Mr. Crocker couldn't have been headmaster very long (he's described as "new" in May 1979, but is gone by August 1979), that feels a bit unlikely to me. And I think by the following year, it was established that Miss Downes was the drama teacher at Eastland.

Yep. Willis was only in "Rough Housing" and "Bought and Sold", and RH was more than a year before Jo arrived.
What other FOL episodes would you have wanted Willis in, Wawwie? I think it would have been cool to have seen him in "Sex Symbol", where boys were invited to the school dance. Or maybe "Who Am I?", when there was another school dance.

When I was a kid, I had a huge crush on Willis! I also would have liked to have seen him in "Who Am I" when that boy was dissin' all of Tootie's white friends. Willis could have told off that boy (forgot his name.) I am drawing a blank on "Sex Symbol." I'm not sure if that's the one where Natalie dates that zit faced loser who lies about scoring with her. Or could it be the one when Tootie becomes a fashion model for that pervert who came to Eastland looking for a model? He wanted Tootie to "make love to the camera." Anyhow, I would have liked Willis visiting Eastland to see Jo. In that Countess whatever episode, they were basketball buddies, so I would have liked to have seen more of that.

The boy dissin' Tootie's white friends was named Fred.
"Sex Symbol" was indeed the episode where Natalie dates the loser who is lying about her... and Cindy, Nancy, and Sue Ann gossip about Natalie. I think it would have been cool for Willis to show off his dance moves in the dance part of that episode.
Tootie becomes a fashion model in "Pretty Babies", where the pervert/creep chooses Tootie over Blair and Nancy because she's so young and innocent looking. "Make love to the camera"... puke:
Seeing Jo play basketball with Willis (instead of just watching them talk about it) would have been cool. She could spin a basketball on her finger, so she was no pushover!
