Danny Pino to Return for "Law & Order: SVU" Episode 500
by Marisa Roffman
Sept. 27, 2021
"Law & Order: SVU" has nabbed an important guest star for its milestone 500th episode, “The Five Hundredth Episode,” Give Me My Remote has learned: Danny Pino!
Pino, who played Detective Nick Amaro, was a series regular on the long-running NBC drama from 2011-15. Amaro was frequently partnered with now-Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), but also had a complicated personal relationship with Detective Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish).
Professionally, Amaro left the NYPD due to essentially being stagnant: after a string of run-ins with IAB (and an injury from a shooting), he reluctantly had to face there was no possibility to move upward in the department.
Instead, he decided to move to California to be closer to his kids.
The 500th episode will air later this season.

Danny Pino Teases his 500th Episode Return on "Law & Order: SVU"
by Kimberly Roots
October 20, 2021
Danny Pino returns as Nick Amaro on "Law & Order: SVU‘s" landmark 500th episode, which airs Thursday (NBC, 9/8c). He says not much has changed since he left the procedural six years ago, at the end of Season 16.
“It’s amazing how much felt the same,” he tells TVLine. “It’s saying a lot to walk onto a set that has been working at such a high level for so long and to feel that same enthusiasm and commitment to the storytelling.”
He credits Mariska Hargitay, who has been a series regular for all 23 seasons, with setting the tone.
“That all really flows from Mariska, who is so incredibly connected and energized and committed to telling these stories still.”

"Tonight, Law & Order: SVU marks its 500th episode. And while NBC’s procedural has remained true to its roots throughout the past 23 seasons — sexually based offenses are still considered especially heinous, and in New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Special Victims Unit — the show looked a bit different when it premiered in September 1999," says Kimberly Roots. "The detective roster featured different names. Capt. Cragen, not Benson, kept everyone in line. The squad room was a lot bigger. 'Rollisi' wasn’t even a spark in the Powers That Be’s eye. And Stabler’s shirts were decidedly looser than they’ve been since his Organized Crime-heralded return. (We’re not complaining.) So ahead of tonight’s milestone hour (9/8c), we took a look back at SVU‘s very first episode, titled 'Payback.' Prepare yourself for baby faces, the old precinct set, Olivia’s no-nonsense ponytail and Munch being Munch. If you’re a relatively recent SVU acolyte, get ready to meet the original crew. And if you’ve been around since the beginning, see how much of the inaugural episode you remember — one line of Stabler’s, for instance, really hasn’t aged well."
