In 1999 Nickelodeon launched a sitcom called Taina which was about a girl with dreams of becoming a pop star. After the debuts of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera Nickelodeon knew it was time to have a sitcom about a pop star. Christina Vidal played Taina and in fact sung all the songs in the show and Taina's mom was played by Lisa Velez who was Lisa Lisa in the group Lisa Lisa And Cult Jam. Taina only lasted one season but it sure paved the way for Victorious and Disney Channel's Hannah Montana
