View Full Version : I Just Had A Boxing Match Thread Moved To The Political Forum
Old School 09-05-2021, 12:34 PM Was this an accident?
I posted a thread in the sports forum about Oscar De La Hoya catching COVID so Evander Holyfield was going to take his place in the match against Victor Belfort on September 11th.
Is there any chance that this thread can be moved from the political forum back to the sports forum?
Thank you.
Your thread was reported with the suggestion it be moved to the COVID-19 forum. My preference is to keep the COVID-19 related threads organized in one section. I've moved a number of threads over there.
One of the replies in your thread was by someone who has been blocked from the COVID-19 section due to her spreading of misinformation. It defeats the purpose of having her blocked if she's going around and post in COVID-19 related threads. She stated she's not a boxing fan, but I'm sure she noticed that a fully vaccinated Oscar De La Hoya was hospitalized with COVID-19. Everyone knows where that thread was headed.
If you want to start a new Evander Holyfield vs. Vitor Belfort match thread without mentioning COVID-19, be my guest.
Why are these old geezers like Evander Holyfield even stepping into the ring? I guess they are ok with risking their health and brain damage for a paycheck.

RetroGuy2000 09-05-2021, 04:46 PM Thanks for moving the thread. I didn't report it, but I suspect the mention of Covid-19 "politicized" the article. Because the US is so completely divided, medical issues have somehow become political issues. It's odd that that has happened, but it's the country we live in.

I just wish whoever felt the need to report my thread had actually comprehended my post as they would have recognized it was about a boxing match instead of being triggered by the word COVID in the thread title...common sense.

I did not report your thread (boxing is a disgusting sport so I wouldn't read threads about that garbage anyway), but I have reported covid related threads that had no business being posted on show boards like Happy Days and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. I also did not appreciate Pavan sticking his mask agenda into today's blog, that sentence should not have been shoved into an entertainment blog.

Your thread was likely reported because Caroline13 was posting in it.
Why did you recreate the thread with COVID in the thread title? Oscar De La Hoya is no longer relevant to an Evander Holyfield vs. Vitor Belfort match thread. Any replies or discussion about Oscar De La Hoya should be in the COVID forum.

Oscar De La Hoya is relevant because he was the original fighter in the match and he had to drop out because he got sick not different than if he got injured right before the fight and had to be replaced by another fighter....it's all relative to the boxing match. But you edited the title so it is what it is.
So, for clarification, if a football player, basketball player, baseball player, hockey player, boxer, MMA fighter and the like gets COVID and/or a franchise or sports league is effected by COVID in some form or fashion it should be posted in the Political form not the Sports forum in the future, correct?
And the word COVID is not allowed to be posted outside of the Political forum, correct?

It's different because he was hospitalized with COVID-19 despite being fully vaccinated.
You could have started a new Evander Holyfield vs. Vitor Belfort match thread when it was announced. Oscar De La Hoya was out of the picture at that point.
I would have to think about it on a case-by-case basis. Anything that gets too political is usually moved. A thread being moved to a more appropriate forum doesn't preclude (unless you are blocked from that forum, of course) one from replying to it.

I don't know what the deal is with Caroline13 but she is not a site friend of mine. I would prefer that she not respond to my posts if it is going to cause this much drama.

Yeah, your thread about Oscar De La Hoya was definitely about boxing and should have remained in the sports forum. If you had reported that he dropped out of the match due to a broken leg, a stroke or a heart attack, the thread never would have been moved.
Putting COVID in the title is like putting chum in the water for sharks.
The replies by other members (two who are not even boxing fans) in the thread were about COVID. There was no discussion about Evander Holyfield as a replacement or boxing in general.
If you want to discuss COVID, the efficacy of the vaccines or conspiracy theories, the place for that is the COVID forum.
Did he get COVID because he was fully vaccinated? Do the vaccines make people more vulnerable to catching it? Are the vaccines the viruses? Did he avoid death because he was fully vaccinated? It must have been a pretty severe case for a healthy 48-year-old professional athlete to be hospitalized. Those types of discussions are for the COVID forum, not the sports forum.

Fair enough...but I was posting about boxing and particulars related to the boxing match, the two others who replied that didn't follow boxing were not, they went off on a COVID tangent for their own personal reasons.
RetroGuy2000 09-07-2021, 04:21 PM It looks as though OS is suspended; I hope he's able to return to the forums soon. I don't always agree with him (especially the 9/11 conspiracy theories, which I find silly), but he's an intelligent forum member who contributes a lot of good content. I've LOVED the official links to full episodes on YouTube, which the networks have been uploading, and OS has been sharing here.

Oh. Thank you, Icecream.
GentlemanJim 09-07-2021, 05:45 PM . I don't always agree with him .
You actually read "in" far enough to his posts to discern what his position even is?
Most of the threads he creates are so overstuffed with....."stuff".... that I've stopped even trying to sort them out.
If a person can't make their point effectively in under 5 minutes, I seriously begin to question just how charitable I'm willing to be with my time....I don't mean that to sound mean spirited, but most of the time it's just too, too much. Often wonder if Leni Riefenstahl has come back to life.

Yeah. I read a lot, so six or eight paragraphs isn't a big deal to me.

As the song says, it takes diff'rent strokes to move the world...
GentlemanJim 09-07-2021, 06:13 PM Typically with effective writing, you state your premise, and then follow that up with supporting arguments, leaving it up to the reader how far they are willing to dive it. With his threads I gather that he's discontent with the status quo, but seldom makes clear what he thinks ought to be done about "whatever".
And when he bumps his own posts like 8-10 times and no one else is even bothering to respond, often times to multiple treads. it starts to seem more like a stink bomb set off in the boys washroom, to me.
It was a series of events and complaints that led to his suspension. He doesn't need to be everyone's friend, but it would be nice if he came back with a less nasty and confrontational attitude at times. We need to see a new side of Old School.
He likes to dance to the beat of his own drummer and do things his own unique way. I like things a certain way. We need to meet halfway.
I'm willing to work with him and give him a second chance if he plays by the rules. All I want is for members to have a pleasant forum experience.
This thread has run its course. I'll continue to move threads to the more appropriate forum as I see fit. You're welcome to question me about the reasons.
