This week at the TV Critics Association meeting in California, two prominant execs told the press about thier utter distaste for the whole concept of "sweeps."
TBS chairman Jamie Kellner and CBS Pres Les Moonves agreed that the whole sweeps thing should be outlawed.
"We are not servicing our viewers well when we put all our programs on against each other, and promote the Hell out of them and confuse everybody...There's so much stuff happening at the same time. And then you go through a drought where there's nothing to watch for long periods of time," Kellner said.
Right on! The sweeps periods are stupid! The networks have enough competition from cable, why should they put all their best programs on against each other? Do they really think they have to do these rediculous stunt programming for fear that advertisers will not give them money?
Who else thinks the Networks should get on the stick and try something new? No Sweeps!!!
