Very different. Season One had a gold background with a tiny white print. Diamond shapes, I think. You can see it briefly during the theme song opening of the show. It shows up behind Bea Arthur as they show her picture while they're introducing the cast.

Season Two and beyond, has the taupe and cream colored big leaf pattern.

I gotta say, now that Bandonurse and Opus have brought this to my attention, I prefer the S2+ wallpaper. Their house was so full of leaves and flowers and lanais; flower-printed comforters, floral wallpaper in the bedrooms; vases with flowers in them. The leaf print really goes with that theme much better than the white dots.

I do wonder why they changed it. What network executive was like, "It's a great show, but we've got to revamp a few things, starting with that dreadful wallpaper!" ?

It's very 80s, for sure. But the dots clash with the rest of the house.

Neither wallpaper is great but I like the leaf pattern better
