I read most of the case, and it is a pretty odd case. Here's my theory:

Maybe the little boy was abused by his parents, and one day things just went too far. Daddy bought that cap they were talking about (before the death even occured) and he was the one that placed the body out in the general location. The mother had haunting nightmares of her son, and her conscious made her out to be a Lady MacBeth. Instead of the mother wringing her hands constantly, she goes back out to where the body is to take care of the body. Every day she goes to visit her dead son's body and basically pretends that the little boy is still alive. This explains the haircuts and fingernails. Daddy didn't have much of a conscious because he never cared for his son, and was glad the boy was dead. Daddy covered his tracks good enough (except for the dropped hat) but daddy figured that one cap couldn't trace it to him.

Daddy sees how mommy is acting, and knows that if they hang around that town longer than the cops are going to suspect him. Daddy and mommy ditch the town just before the cops find the body. Father is glad that the cops didn't find him, and he dies an old man. Mother probably died of guilt just after they ditched the town.

That really was one freaky case though.

I remember hearing about this case on Americas Most Wanted. It's sad alright. I agree with Jenny. The parents probably had something to do with it. I doubt the case will ever be solved after 40 some years.

Those whom may have known this boy, and not reported it, will probably be dead by then...
