View Full Version : Recurring actors
BestTVever 08-24-2021, 05:16 AM Lets play the recurring actor game. Threes Company probably had the most recurring actors in different and various roles that I have ever seen. Here are some that I know but some of you are better than me.
The actress that played Mrs. Roper's aunt in The Older Woman also played the church lady several years later in the episode The Brunch.
Chrissy's boss in A Catered Affair was later Janet's dad in Janet's Secret and another later episode
The police officer in Handcuffed was Cindy's dad in The Case of the Missing Blonde.
The other police officer in Handcuffed was the roommate of Jack's love interest who was sharing an apartment with 2 guys
In the episode Chrissy's Cousin the woman that Larry brings to the apartment as a possible roommate was Jacks love interest in a later episode when she wanted him to work at her father's cardboard company
Roper's niece in the first season was Jack's stalker in Boy Meets Dummy
Cindy's stalker in Here Comes The Bride was Terri's date in Two Flew Over The Cuckoos nest and then later the dentist on Jack goes to the dentist
Janet's date who came to the apartment to talk about ferns when Jack had a broken leg turned out to be Jack's Navy buddy in the later episode Navy Blues
Jack's brother who took out Chrissy also was in another episode but I cant remember which one
Jack's girlfriend in Stanley's Hotline was also the loan officer many years later in Jack Gets His
The doctor in Chrissy's Hospitality was Janet's date in a later episode and I believe in another role in another episode
The grandmother in the Babysitters had a recurring role in multiple later episodes as a nurse with Terri
What have I missed...

My mind is going to explode now !!!!!! OMG
BestTVever 08-28-2021, 02:34 PM Honest Jack Tripper episode: His love interest in this episode also was his girlfriend in the early years and on Stanley's Hotline and the Bank Loan officer in a later episode
SitcomsHeydayfan 09-02-2021, 03:39 AM DAYUM!
Mace Dolex 09-15-2021, 11:49 PM Jack's brother who took out Chrissy also was in another episode but I cant remember which one
That would be actor John Getz he didn't appear in any other TC episode but he has been in tons of movies and TV roles.
The doctor in Chrissy's Hospitality was Janet's date in a later episode and I believe in another role in another episode
.
Actor Keene Curtis appeared in just the two TC episodes but was a frequent guest star in tons of shows.
Another actor is Terry Kiser who was the jealous boyfriend Max wanting to hurt Jack in season 5 and in season 6 was the mafia guy Mr. Cannon who loved Jack's cooking.
SitcomsHeydayfan 09-17-2021, 07:22 AM You didn't mention Jeffrey Tambor playing a psychiatrist, a guy going after Cindy, & a dentist dating Terri & treating Jack!
So he played 3 roles & was the funniest of the recurring actors.

Yes I did. Check out the first post
BestTVever 09-17-2021, 12:30 PM Chrissy's hooker friend in a $100 for what? was also Janet's married friend in "An affair to forget"
BestTVever 09-27-2021, 06:41 AM Saw another one this weekend. The church lady in The Brunch was also cast as a relative in The Inheritance when Janet gets that stupid vase
Mace Dolex 10-03-2021, 08:41 PM Saw another one this weekend. The church lady in The Brunch was also cast as a relative in The Inheritance when Janet gets that stupid vase
That was a different elderly woman, but the lady from the inheritance episode was also in the episode that had Jack's father visiting, she's the Bistro patron that gets insulted by the Sr. Tripper.
BestTVever 10-27-2021, 06:42 AM The real estate agent who sold Roper's apartment building also appeared as the gold digger woman who was after Mr Furley in a later episode.
BestTVever 10-28-2021, 01:02 PM Saw another one last night.
The building inspector in "Going to Pot" was also the Doctor in "Jack's Tattoo."
BestTVever 11-04-2021, 06:19 AM That was a different elderly woman, but the lady from the inheritance episode was also in the episode that had Jack's father visiting, she's the Bistro patron that gets insulted by the Sr. Tripper.
You are correct. I meant to say the church lady in the Brunch (actress Irene Tedrow) also played Mrs Roper's aunt in The Older Woman.
Found another one. The actor who played the Guru in Chrissy and the Guru was also Janet's dance teacher in Some of that Jazz.
I think I am the only one having fun at this game  But I doubt there is another sitcom that reused as many actors as Threes Company.
BestTVever 11-11-2021, 07:39 AM Saw another one last night. The woman who had a tiny role in the episode "The Heiress" who played the sister of the deceased at the will reading also was the cranky woman at the Bistro in the episode "Like father, like son."
She also was the potential buyer of the Brady Bunch house in the episode where the kids haunt the house so it does not sell. :)
Mace Dolex 11-25-2021, 01:18 AM Saw another one last night.
The building inspector in "Going to Pot" was also the Doctor in "Jack's Tattoo."
And he was in an episode of Three's A Crowd the one that revolved around counterfeit money.
BestTVever 03-26-2022, 06:39 AM Discovered another one.......
The guy with the bird cage who lost his wife to David Miller in the episode "The not so great imposter" was also the bartender in a later season in the episode "Oh Nun."
Threes Company must hold the record for the most recurring actors in different characters ever.
Mace Dolex 03-28-2022, 02:13 AM Threes Company must hold the record for the most recurring actors in different characters ever.
I don't know why TV shows did this practice its not like there was a limited supply of actors the casting director could pull from.
Imagine one of the characters saying "haven't I seen you before?"
BestTVever 04-02-2022, 11:10 AM Got another one. Actress Sondra Currie appeared in 3 different episodes and different seasons playing different characters.
- Jack Takes Off (1984) ... Arlene Price
- Janet's Secret (1981) ... Shelley Green
- Alone Together (1977) ... Sherry Lee
She also played Big Daddy's young girlfriend in the Golden Girls among countless other TV shows.
BestTVever 04-20-2022, 05:21 PM One more that I cant recall if I mentioned. The woman who played the overzealous actress who dated Larry in "A camping we will go" was also Jack Tripper's flight attendant date in "Critic's Choice."
BestTVever 07-23-2022, 04:15 PM OMG found another one today. In the episode "And baby makes four" (season 5) Cindy's fashion photographer boyfriend was also the husband of Randy in the episode "An affair not to forget" season 7.
Strangely enough this episode has 2 recurring actors in the same episode since the actress who played Randy also played Chrissy's hooker friend in "A $100 for what" in Season 5.
BestTVever 08-25-2022, 05:53 AM Found another one last night. Cindy's boss (Mr. Hadley) in "Jack to the Rescue" was also the Flower shop regional manager in "Hearts and Flowers." He gave Janet a raise and another week's vacation in the end.
This show no doubt has the most recurring actors than any sitcom.
Mace Dolex 08-26-2022, 01:44 PM Here's another: character actor Joe George
"Jack's Bad Boy" (as Billy's chauffeur)
"Make Room For Daddy" (as a waiter )
"Baby It's Cold Inside" (as the robber that locks up Jack and Furley at Angelino's freezer)

Great job!
Mace Dolex 08-28-2022, 10:47 PM Found another one and this one I knew I had a gut feeling because the actor had a mustache in his second TC appearance, actor Alan McRae.
"Triangle Troubles" (as Phil one of the two guys going on a double date with Janet and Chrissy)
"Eyewitness Blues" (as Craig the robber that holds up Janet's flower shop)
DORVID 09-01-2022, 03:23 AM Taaffe O’Connell was in 3 eps.

Wawwie 09-03-2022, 11:59 AM The actress that played Mrs. Roper's aunt in The Older Woman also played the church lady several years later in the episode The Brunch.
Off topic: that actress was also in a lot of episodes as "Ms. Elkins" on Dennis the Menace.

Yes she was a staple of TV shows in the 50s, 60s, 70s and early 80s. She also was in a Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys episode.

Irene Tedrow was her name. I remember her playing Mr. Drummond's racist mother in an episode of Diff'rent Strokes.

Yes. I was watching last night and saw him as a customer in the flower shop in the episode "Jack in the Flower shop." He was another customer years later in "Extra Extra."
Here are the episodes he is in:
Mr. Hubbard / Maitre d' / Singing Telegram Man / ...
- Extra, Extra (1982) ... Mr. Hubbard
- Mate for Each Other (1982) ... Maitre d'
- Father of the Bride (1981) ... Singing Telegram Man
- A Hundred Dollars a What? (1980) ... Gambel
- Jack in the Flower Shop (1978) ... Mr. Harwood

"Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow" - as the hot blonde from the Regal Beagle who turns Jack down for a date.
Sigh, Jenny Sherman. She's in a Barnaby Jones episode "Deadline for Murder" where she's helping Jedediah Jones throughout, and he never notices her. It's as though Mark Shera - in real life - asked her out on a date, she turned him down, and he half-ignored her throughout their scenes together. His character flirted with EVERYONE, and he can't even be bothered to look at her.
I also find it weird, that technically, Jordan Charney, who would play Frank Angelino, initially played the character Mr. Layton(sans beard), in the episode "Jack Moves Out". The episode where Cynthia Harris is playing footsie with Jack while REALLY enjoying that chicken.
Sondra Currie - mentioned earlier - also on Barnaby Jones in the episode "Murder in the Key of C", has a scene getting out of a car, that I had to replay a good 50 times over.
Sorry about the derail...
My additions to this wonderful thread, Tori Lysdahl. You'll CERTAINLY remember her in the episodes "Mighty Mouth" (Shirley) and "Diamond Jack" (Rita).
Also Michael Bell (if he's been mentioned already, my apologies), as the Rama Mageesh in the episode "Chrissy and the Guru", and as the dance instructor Michael, in the episode "Some of That Jazz"; the one where he tells Janet that she doesn't have "It".
Funny, I wonder if Sylvester Stallone had caught this particular episode, and added the "It" part to Staying Alive (1983); when Finola Hughes' character Laura, notified Tony that he didn't have "It" during the 2nd intermission of "Satan's Alley". At least 2 people didn't have "It" around that time.

YES! You are so right and its so weird to see your comment here. I was watching that episode in bed the other night and reminded myself to put those comments here. You beat me to the punch.
BestTVever 08-05-2023, 06:42 AM Found another one:
In the episode Diamond Jack. The soda jerk at the roller rink was actor Tom Lancaster. He appeared in several other episodes
In Extra Extra as a local in the Regal Beagle
In Jack's Double date he was the bartender in the Regal Beagle
In Janet's Little Helper he was the waiter at the restaurant
He also played an uncredited Secret Service agent on the 1990 episode of the Golden Girls "The President Is Coming"
BestTVever 08-10-2023, 03:36 AM OMG
Saw another one last night.
In the episode Janet Shapes up, she teaches an aerobics class. There is a heavy set woman who thinks Jack is hitting on her. She only has one line "Dont you ever give up" but its the same actress that played the woman in Strangers In The Night. Her hair color is different in each episode so this is a tricky one.
