The latest installment of ABC News’ new series “Superstar” journeys through the life and career of comedic genius John Ritter. The television event also dives into his personal life and sudden and tragic death at just 54 years old that stunned the world. “Superstar: John Ritter” has new interviews with his son, Jason Ritter, and his first wife, Nancy Ritter, who open up about their memories of him and his legacy. The program includes interviews with top actors who worked with and were influenced by Ritter, including “Three’s Company” co-star Suzanne Somers, Bryan Cranston, Jimmy Kimmel, Kaley Cuoco, Henry Winkler and Raven-Symoné. “Superstar: John Ritter” also features footage from the ABC News archives, including Ritter’s interview with ABC News’ Barbara Walters, never-before-seen family videos as well as an interview with Ritter’s wife Amy Yasbeck, on her efforts to raise awareness for the aortic disease Ritter passed away from. “Superstar: John Ritter” airs Wednesday, Aug. 25 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC. It can also be viewed the next day on demand and on Hulu.

Babalu 08-21-2021, 07:35 AM To me, John Ritter was a wooden, unfunny, comic actor. I saw nothing entertaining about him. From what I have heard, he was a nice, decent guy but that doesn't make me enjoy watching him.

From what I have heard, he was a nice, decent guy but that doesn't make me enjoy watching him. Wow, John Ritter was wonderful. I don't like Three's Company but his acting was good there. And 8 Simple Rules for Dating my Teenage Daughter had a lot of promise before he died. He was good in his Waltons recurring role and Touched by an Angel and Wings guest appearances. I definitely wouldn't call his acting wooden, versatile in his different roles as well.
SitcomsHeydayfan 08-22-2021, 03:08 AM Great! I'll be watching!

What about John's AMAZING physical comedy?? The QUEEN of Comedy herself, Lucille Ball, said Three's Company was her favorite show BECAUSE of Ritter's comic genius!
John's co - star Richard Kline also praised John's comic genius & I'm sure the rest of the Three's Company cast agreed!
John also won an Emmy for his comedy in Three's Company.

I don't form my opinions because Lucille Ball likes someone or because they won an Emmy.
I watched John Ritter on Three's Company and I thought he was a lousy actor and I thought his pratfalls were horribly fake. I couldn't believe it when Lucy complimented him.

I do get it, you do not care for him as an entertainer. However for starters, John is just about as far away from being wooden as can be. I see nothing about any of his performances that would even remotely give me the idea that he was a wooden performer.

EXACTLY!
Seinfeld or any of the Friends or Big Bang DORKS are as wooden as TREES compared to ROFL Jack Tripper!

Seinfeld or any of the Friends or Big Bang DORKS are as wooden as TREES compared to ROFL Jack Tripper! :lol:I would not call Michael Richards, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, or Jim Parsons wooden/trees at all. They brought a lot to their Seinfeld/Big Bang shows. Now the Friends cast, no argument there the show was royal suckage.
TVFactFan 08-25-2021, 10:19 PM This special is really enjoyable and you can tell its not a CNN special. Great job by ABC
icecream 08-25-2021, 11:06 PM I get that Katey Sagal wouldn't want anything to do with ABC for now after they cancelled Rebel. But Amy Davidson should have been a part of this.
TVFactFan 08-25-2021, 11:20 PM And why the **** was Raven Symone on there?
Merry24 08-26-2021, 01:22 AM I wonder if this means Katey Segal is done with The Conners?
Also surprised no Joyce Dewitt.
John Ritter was very talented and Respected amongst his peers. Thanks for all your kindness and professionalism and your talent Mr.Ritter!! You are great fully missed.

Joyce would have made more sense than stupid a## Raven symone

Were those guests payed or something??
It's not like Joyce to hold out for money. That's Suzanne's territory!
SitcomsHeydayfan 08-26-2021, 02:35 AM And why the fck was Raven Symone on there?
Good question!
Plus she looks worse than she did 10 years ago or so.

I agree but has she basically quit acting??
I've not seen her in anything since 8SR!
SitcomsHeydayfan 08-26-2021, 02:42 AM It was nice to see a new John Ritter special!
One thing they never mentioned is that John DID get a heart scan a couple years before he died & it showed CALCIFICATION of some arteries! Yet SHOCKINGLY John told Amy "I'm going to be with you a long time" after that heart scan.
So John LIED & it basically cost him his life! I guess they didn't mention this because it shows a negative side of John? I think I saw this on that 2 hour John Ritter special on the REELZ channel that aired 1 or 2 years ago.

She's guested on a lot of shows throughout the 2000s.
She was a regular on "Sons of Anarchy" from 2008–2014, which was her husband's show, and also starred on the CBS comedy "Superior Donuts".

I still need an explanation as to why the **** was raven someone talking about john ritter
Merry24 08-26-2021, 08:15 PM John Ritter & his wife Amy Yasbeck were on an episode of The Cosby Show. Perhaps they mentored-became friends with Raven from the show or other projects.

I don't agree with ABC but just explaining the reason.
I'd rather see Tyler Ritter, Joyce DeWitt, Katey Sagal and lesser known actors who worked with him in the special over Raven there.
BigManMike 08-27-2021, 09:32 PM They guest starred 2 seasons before raven was added to the show
They guest starred in Season 7 and Raven joined in Season 6. And supposedly Bill Cosby hated Three’s Company so it’s interesting he let John on his show.

I always thought that was 1987 when guest starred. Damm you right that was 1991
It was still weird to have her discussing three's company

Why??
Must be JEALOUSLY because TC is INFINITELY better than the horrible Cosby(serial rapist) show!

SitcomsHeydayfan 08-31-2021, 01:46 AM So I take it they never made the Henry Winkler episode of 8SR?
D-Dey 08-31-2021, 08:45 AM Kaley Cuoco also worked with him on "8 Simple Rules," but she gets too emotional anytime his name is mentioned.

I'm pretty sure Raven, and even Kaley, haven't watched any episodes of Three's Company, with exception of a few clips.
At least Kaley worked with him, and had experiences from 8SR. But ABC had too much of her talking, which is like glorifying her or her experience.
It also seemed like ABC just did a get one person, the most successful one, from each area.
One remaining cast member of 8SR and Three's Company (Kaley and Suzanne), and had no interest getting Amy Davidson/Martin Spanjers/etc and likely Joyce DeWitt from Three's Company.
And children - ABC got Jason Ritter, but didn't feel the need to get the other Ritter son who looks a lot like John and who starred in the CBS sitcom, The McCarthy's. But he didn't turn out successful, so no need to interview him. Instead, get Raven
DEH55 08-31-2021, 10:03 PM As much as John was funny on Three's company does he really deserve the special? Three's Company for it's time was big but it hasn't aged well. The show was dumb, sexist, homophobic but popular. After that his career was not that memorable.

Sinead O'Conner: What do you know about suffering? Your whole life is frivolous and petty. You spend your whole day worried about whether one of your tenants is gay.
Norman Fell: It's just a part I play...
Sinead O'Conner: A part you chose to play, sir.
icecream 09-02-2021, 02:44 AM When will the Robin Williams episode of Superstar air? I had assumed it would be September 15 but there is some other special then. And the following week is the start of the new TV season.

It was the line about the show being homophobic that reminded me of that sketch.
