A lot of sitcoms did this, but out of all the ones that I can recall the only ones that made a definite improvement in my opinion were Charles In Charge and ALF.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't count that because those are two entirely different songs. I was just talking about instances where a show made alterations to their original theme. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear before.

I think the alteration of theme songs between the first and second seasons of The Facts of Life was a strong one. The original theme had Charlotte Rae singing along in a sort of "itsy bitsy spider" sing-song voice, and while I adore the first season of the show, the original theme made the show feel much more kid-oriented, or like it was just a fun summer kids' show. The second theme gave the series much more gravitas, befitting a show that tackled (in its first four seasons) drugs, suicide, prostitution, eating disorders, sex and sexuality, rape, and teenage marriage.

The change between seasons six and seven, the third theme song, ultimately was a mistake, although as a kid, I was excited by the change to an upbeat rock theme. Today, it feels more 1980s than wearing leg warmers with parachute pants while watching Punky Brewster.

I wouldn't count that either since the lyrics from season one are very different from the other seasons.

I definitely liked the updated Leave it to Beaver theme from season 6.

Keeping with the really old stuff, the 5th season change, and the subsequent season 6 change, were good ones for Father Knows Best.

The Facts Of Life - I loved the later seasons theme song.

Alice - I loved the theme song from the later years.

I love the 80s. I miss it so much. Good times. :D

There were good times, for sure. Some bad ones as well, though.
