Even Married with Children had a beach episode and I believe Who's the Boss had one too. But not the show that features the beach in the opening credits:lol: We only seen them coming from the beach

They did talk about the beach sometimes like when Janet and Mrs. Roper decided to go down to the nude beach and protest. Also, in another episode, Chrissy talks about going to a beach barbeque with that colleague of Janet's. Also, Jack took Larry's sister to the beach for the grunion run. I remember Teri saying she was going to the beach while in a bikini in another episode. Still, they should have had at least one episode where they actually show the beach.

Yes, since it was so many references

I just thought of another one. Jack tells Janet and Chrissy about how he went surfing at the beach with his older girlfriend. Janet and Chrissy think he's talking about Mrs. Roper's old aunt but he's actually talking about the old lady's daughter (Mrs. Roper's cousin).:lol: It was funny when he said "You should have seen how she turned heads in her bikini."

Or when he says: "What's that intoxicating fragrance you're wearing"?
Martha: "It's BenGay. I rub some on my shoulders for my arthritis."
Larry: "It's so you."

LOL

Also lol @ when Larry unbuttons his shirt when he's trying to put the moves on the old lady!

Yep, she mentions that she uses the BenGay for arthritis in her shoulders. I have the DVDs, maybe that part is only on the uncut version?

Good Old Reliable Janet is the closest "beach" episode you can get without seeing the beach. There is a logical reason for no beach scenes. The show was shot in a studio. Its almost impossible to create the ocean and beach in a studio. For that reason alone, the beach is always referred to but never seen

Even shows like 'I Love Lucy', 'The Lucy Show', 'The Brady Bunch', 'The Golden Girls' all DID have shows with scenes supposedly on beaches- and all but 'The Brady Bunch' were filmed/videoed in front of studio audiences. How tough would it have been to have just brought in a room-sized sandbox with maybe a tiny hot dog/shaved ice stand for the characters to stand in front of (like they do for stage plays)? The home audience would have had little trouble imagining the characters cavorting on an actual beach even if it wasn't actually filmed on one.

True but technology with sets was much better in the 1990s than the 1970s.

What's interesting is when sitcoms filmed inside studios film some scenes outside. The Ropers had a few scenes filmed outside with Roper's car. There is the first episode when they go to the townhouse the first time. Then the next season when Jenny helps Roper fix his car and drive away from the shopping center. Its weird to see the real outside on a sitcom. Mamas Family did this when Mama was learning to drive, bought a car, and ran for mayor.

But 'I Love Lucy' managed to pull off a beach scene in front of a studio audience in the 1950's so why didn't 'Three's Company' attempt it other than sheer laziness?

The ATM scene is a studio. You are referring to another part? I am curious now

And when Jack was working as a mechanical man for the department store, Larry brought that bimbo outside (the tramp that was secretly dating Jack & Larry at the same time.)

You guys are confusing studio sets depicting outside scenes and real life outside scenes. All of Threes Company was filmed in a studio......apartment, restaurants, outside scenes in the cabin, woods, ATM, outside the Bistro, etc.

The example I gave where the Ropers was filmed outside (i.e. filmed outside the studio) during a few shows like Mama Family was. I think if you watch you can tell the difference

let me try this again because you seem to be confused. I said TC could have had a Instudio beach episode like they did on Married with children since the apt was near the beach. If MWC was able to do an entire ep at the beach to make it look like they was outside then TC should have been able to do the same

Now they did outside scene at the lake in season 8 when Jack and larry fell in the water so they could have done a beach episode
