Why does Gomer wear tennis shoes in Gomer Overcomes the Obstacle Course? None of the other members of the platoon have them.

Why does Gomer wear tennis shoes in Gomer Overcomes the Obstacle Course? None of the other members of the platoon have them.
just a guess, but maybe it was just in scenes where his feet didn't show and he only wore them sometimes because combat boots were uncomfortable?

To me, it just looks like shoes you would wear when you were running. Gomer wouldn't run in boots. Also the shoes look like regular sneakers of that time frame. 1960's and one would need a shoe to grab while running the obstacle course

Everyone in the hut scenes is in sneakers. It's a mix of sneakers and boots in the obstacle scene. I wonder if the guys in boots are real Marines? Everyone you see completing obstacles seems to be in boots, except a couple sneaker guys who do the rope swing.
