The 'Dead to Me' actress tweeted that she was diagnosed (https://www.justjared.com/2021/08/10/christina-applegate-reveals-diagnosis-with-multiple-sclerosis-ms/) a "few months ago" and that she has "been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition."

The 49-year-old actress (https://www.primetimer.com/people/christina-applegate) shared the news (https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/christina-applegate-multiple-sclerosis-1235038116/) on Monday evening posting a message to her 1.4 million followers on Twitter. Applegate wrote (https://twitter.com/1capplegate/status/1424982406180704259?s=20), “Hi friends. A few months ago I was diagnosed with MS. It’s been a strange journey.”
She added: “But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition. It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some a**hole blocks it.”
In a follow-up tweet, Applegate wrote, “As one of my friends that has MS said “ we wake up and take the indicated action”. And that’s what I do. So now I ask for privacy. As I go through this thing. Thank you xo.”
According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the disease, which affects more women than men and is typically diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, is described as “an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body.” With her diagnosis, Applegate joins the estimated 2.3 million people living with the disease worldwide.
A number of stars have revealed that they are living with MS in recent years including Applegate’s The Sweetest Thing co-star Selma Blair, Sopranos actress Jamie Lynn Sigler, talk-show host Montell Williams and reality star Jack Osbourne.
The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Applegate’s reps.
In August 2008, Applegate revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and later that month announced she was cancer-free after a double mastectomy. Her battle with cancer was included in the storylines for the Netflix drama series Dead to Me, in which Applegate stars and executive produces.

"Yup. I turned 50 today," Applegate tweeted on Thanksgiving Day. "And I have MS. It’s been a hard one. Sending so much love to all of you this day. Many are hurting today, and I am thinking of you. May we find that strength to lift our heads up. Mine currently is on my pillow. But I try."

"This will be my first time out since diagnosed with MS," Applegate continued. "Walking sticks are now part of my new normal. Thank you @neowalksticks for these beauties. Stay tuned to see which ones make the cut for a week of stuff."
After a follower suggested Applegate try activator canes, which were designed by an occupational therapist for rehab and long-term use, the actress noted that she has one and loves it, but that she wanted something else for the event.
"The activator is what I use daily," Applegate wrote. "Love mine. But these events I wanted fancy I guess. My activator has stickers that say FUMS [F— you MS] so wasn't sure if that was appropriate haha"
When the Emmy Award-winning Applegate turned 50 last November, she shared an encouraging message for her followers. "Yup. I turned 50 today. And I have MS. It's been a hard one," she wrote.

But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition," Applegate wrote at the time. "It's been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some ******* blocks it."
Applegate has since been met with love and support from friends and fans alike. Selma Blair, with whom she starred alongside Cameron Diaz in the 2002 romantic comedy The Sweetest Thing, offered her support in the replies. Blair, 50, has been open about her own struggle with MS.
"Loving you always. Always here. As are our kids. Beating us up with love," Blair wrote, to which Applegate responded: "Love you sister. Our kids are so weird."

Virtual 11-17-2022, 06:26 PM I've seen some people still be able to lead good lives with it, so hopefully that will be the case for her.
Caroline13 11-23-2022, 03:38 PM I was going to post about Christina and the MS dx and there is a lot one can do to manage the MS, staying away from sugar and major carbs for 2 things..... and reducing stress in one's life, important for all lives. My sis battled MS but sadly I don't believe her so called great doctors forced the sugar thing enough if at all. She lived to 68. Just looking at the beautiful memorial book with pictures from her life, and I spent many holidays at her homes in the East. Fond memories...
Reading up on Married With Children cast and learning more about them.....Fun show and hope "Kelly Bundy" does good,
I'll be honest with you that when I first read this "blind item" (https://www.crazydaysandnights.net/2022/11/todays-blind-items-drug-anniversary.html) I immediately figured and assumed that it was about Christina Applegate (https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/christina-applegate-says-sag-awards-003502441.html) and/or her The Sweetest Thing co-star (https://www.google.com/search?q=selma+blair+christina+applegate&sxsrf=AJOqlzVJ3hzd8p0rlMMcJcJK7gLAHuj1uQ:1675856068906&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjB57mt6oX9AhV3mmoFHRBVDKkQ_AUoAXoECAEQAw) Selma Blair (https://www.foxella.com/after-effects-of-decades-long-drug-abuse/):
I need to be clear right upfront that I never actually with my own eyes, saw the actor do what I am about to describe. Several friends of the actor though have relayed to me over the years essentially the same story they each described to me separately. I also don't know if there is causation, but I will lay it out for you and you decide.
This actor is A- list now, and I have personally seen him do a wide variety of drugs. I have seen him beyond wasted and still try and find someone to take home for the night, even though everyone knew he would be passed out before he made it home. More than one woman has been awakened by him in his living room or guest bedroom in the morning and asked who they are and how they got inside his home.
His temper is legendary and his cheating is never ending. His actress wife left him because of both. Before he got married though, he was single and always partying and looking for a good time. When he wanted someone that night, he would head for them and many times, he was successful. It was the nights that he was not successful, that the trouble began.
According to those who knew him, in those early years, he would have some coke he kept in a different vial from his regular vial. He called the vial his leg spreader. Two of his friends believed the coke was laced or cut with some kind of medicine used to tranquilize large animals. He got it from a friend who was a vet. He would invite the object of his attention to do some coke with him and within 5 minutes they would be out cold. In the intervening five minutes he would either take them to his bedroom or his car.
The friends know of at least a dozen women that he did this too. No one knows what happened to most of those women, or if there were more. They only know of the dozen or so. The crazy thing is, and this is why the first one reached out, is that all of the ones they know of that are still around, all have developed MS.
Christina Applegate on MS and Its Toll on Her Life and Iconic Career: “It F--king Sucks” (https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2023/05/christina-applegate-on-ms-and-its-toll-on-her-life-and-iconic-career-it-f-king-sucks)
How are you feeling today?
APPLEGATE: ”With the disease of MS, it’s never a good day. You just have little ****** days. People are like, “Well, why don’t you take more showers?” Well, because getting in the shower is frightening. You can fall, you can slip, your legs can buckle. Especially because I have a glass shower. It’s frightening to me to get in there. There are just certain things that people take for granted in their lives that I took for granted. Going down the stairs, carrying things—you can’t do that anymore. It ****ing sucks (https://www.reddit.com/r/television/comments/137k2d2/christina_applegate_on_ms_and_its_toll_on_her/). I can still drive my car short distances. I can bring up food to my kid. Up, never down.”
You mentioned that Dead to Me may be your last time acting on camera. Do you think about your future in the industry or have you back-burnered that for the time being?
”I can’t even imagine going to set right now. This is a progressive disease. I don’t know if I’m going to get worse. I can do voiceover stuff because I have to support my family and keep my brain working.”
Duster76 05-05-2023, 11:19 AM I believe Lola Falana is still alive, she's close to 80, she announced she had MS back in the 1980's so there is some hope.
Christina Applegate "Probably Not Going To Work On-Camera Again" But Plans To Voice Kelly Bundy In The "Married With Children" Animated Series (https://deadline.com/2023/05/christina-applegate-probably-not-going-to-work-on-camera-again-plans-voice-kelly-bundy-married-with-children-animated-series-1235358549)
Christina Applegate says she’s done with acting in front of a camera after wrapping up Dead to Me amid her multiple sclerosis diagnosis.
The Emmy award-winning star opened up about filming the last season of the Netflix dramedy opposite Linda Cardellini when she hinted she was not going to act in front of a lens anymore.
“Ping-pong is so much more fun when the other person is just as good as you are. I’m probably not going to work on-camera again, but I’m so glad that I went out with someone who is by far the greatest actress I’ve ever worked with in my entire life, if not the greatest human I’ve ever known,” Applegate told Vanity Fair.
However, just because Applegate said she was done acting in front of cameras, didn’t mean she was quitting acting. The Samantha Who? alum said she was open to doing voice-over work.
“I can’t even imagine going to set right now. This is a progressive disease. I don’t know if I’m going to get worse. I can do voiceover stuff because I have to support my family and keep my brain working,” she said.
In 2022, it was unveiled that an animated series based on Married… with Children was in the works. If the show moves forward, Applegate would provide the voice of the character Kelly Bundy that she originated in the Fox sitcom back in 1987.
“I can’t really say much, but all I know is that all four of us are attached to it. It’s not in our hands now, so we’re just kind of waiting,” Applegate said about the development of the animated series.
Applegate would reunite with her TV family that included Ed O’Neill as Al, Katey Sagal as Peggy and David Faustino as Bud.
rusty spike 05-09-2023, 05:40 PM I think Christina needs to give herself some time to figure out how to manage her disease before giving up acting all together. Yes, there's voiceover work, but I think there's time to figure out her physical limitations and adapt.
She's had a rough time. I hope she can find a good treatment for it.

Does MS make you gain weight (https://parade.com/news/christina-applegate-rare-public-appearance-tv-fest-legacy-award-photos-2023)? There are four types (https://www.healthline.com/health/multiple-sclerosis/types-of-ms) of MS. Two are sort of slow to progress, and can be fairly manageable. They say that people who are of Northern European or Scandinavian ancestry skew higher (https://mymsaa.org/ms-information/overview/who-gets-ms/#:~:text=More%20prevalent%20among%20those%20of,other%20differences%20have%20been%20observed.) for MS. They're also saying that chronic vitamin D deficiency (https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/multiple-sclerosis/expert-answers/vitamin-d-and-ms/faq-20058258#:~:text=Research%20has%20shown%20that%20maintaining,less%20likely%20to%20have%20MS%20.) can up your risks, which correlates with northern populations.

Christina Applegate is opening up (https://www.lipstickalley.com/threads/christina-applegate-says-%E2%80%98i-live-kind-of-in-hell%E2%80%99-amid-multiple-sclerosis-diagnosis.5552574/) about living with multiple sclerosis on “Good Morning America” in her first on-camera sit-down interview following her 2021 diagnosis.
“I live kind of in hell,” Applegate told host Robin Roberts in a clip of the interview teased on “GMA” Monday morning. “I’m not out a lot, so this is a little difficult, just for my system. But of course, the support is wonderful and I’m really grateful.”
Applegate participated in the interview — which airs in full on Tuesday — alongside “The Sopranos” star Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who has been fighting MS since she was 20 years old.
In January, Applegate received a standing ovation when she was a surprise presenter at the Emmys. “We don’t have to applaud every time I do something,” Applegate quipped as the audience roared with applause.
Of the Emmys moment, Applegate admitted that she “actually kind of blacked out.”
“People said, ‘Oh you were so funny,’ and I’m like, ‘I don’t even know what I said,'” Applegate said. “I don’t know what I was doing. I got so freaked out that I didn’t even know what was happening anymore. And I felt really beloved, and it was a beautiful thing.”
Applegate said in May 2023 that she likely wouldn’t appear on-camera anymore due to the autoimmune disease.
“I’m probably not going to work on-camera again, but I’m so glad that I went out with someone who is by far the greatest actress I’ve ever worked with in my entire life, if not the greatest human I’ve ever known,” Applegate told Vanity Fair of her “Dead to Me” co-star Linda Cardellini.
She added, “I can do voiceover stuff because I have to support my family and keep my brain working.”
The full interview with Applegate and Sigler airs on “Good Morning America” on Tuesday.
Known by pretty much everyone for guest starring as Rachel Green's sister in Friends, Christina Applegate is a cherished household face and name.
I'm shaking my head at this writer (Tom Earnshaw (https://www.ladbible.com/author/tom-earnshaw)) for unironically suggesting (https://www.ladbible.com/news/health/christina-applegate-emmys-multiple-sclerosis-health-explained-265469-20240116) that Christina is more known first and foremost, for playing Rachel's sister on Friends than for playing Kelly Bundy on Married...with Children.

“I could not do that, it would be too sappy,” Applegate explained on the first episode of her and fellow MS sufferer Jamie-Lynn Sigler’s new podcast MeSsy (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/introducing-messy/id1734318382?i=1000648005610), explaining what her life has been like since her diagnosis, according to The Daily Beast. “I physically just don’t feel good and I physically just don’t look like myself. I don’t know how to get out of this rut of self loathing and just giving up.”

"I am in a depression right now, which I don't think I've felt for years," Applegate explained to Jamie-Lynn Sigler on the June 4 episode of their MeSsy podcast, which was recorded earlier this year, according to E! News. "Like a real, f*** it all, like real depression where it's kind of scaring me too a little bit because it feels really fatalistic."

According to reports (https://www.tvinsider.com/1258795/christina-applegate-hospitalized-response-multiple-sclerosis/), Christina Applegate, 54, has been hospitalized in LA since March 31. The actress was in the beginning of her press tour to promote her newly published memoir "You With The Sad Eyes" which was released a few weeks before the hospitalization. In the memoir, she talks openly about her courageous battle with MS, which was first diagnosed five years ago.
Applegate was also the cohost of the podcast 'MesSy', which she cohosted with actress Jamie-Lynn Singler, who went public with her own battle with MS in 2016. The podcast was 'paused' at the end of March, to allow Applegate to start her book press tour.
When questioned about her hospitalization, her rep said, “I have no comment on whether she is in the hospital or what her medical treatments are. She’s had a long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about, as evidenced in her memoir and on her podcast.”

staytuned 04-20-2026, 10:30 PM I know she's got family and friends supporting her but why isn't she's given a recommended prescription in order to prevent the disease from spreading even further in her body, let alone have some recommended therapy exercises to help her out?
I don't know about you guys, but something tells me that her doctors from that hospital she's staying at aren't doing her any favors.
