At least in regards to how not to end a show? Both Kate & Allie (https://thatsallsiknow.blogspot.com/2020/12/the-10-best-kate-allie-episodes.html) and Gimme a Break were produced by Alan Landsburg Productions (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Landsburg_Productions), which was later known as Reeves Entertainment (https://closinglogosgroup.miraheze.org/wiki/Reeves_Entertainment).
Like on GAB (https://moviechat.org/tt0081869/Gimme-a-Break/58c73b7b6b51e905f66b5a10/The-last-season), K&A (http://greatbutforgotten.blogspot.com/2009/07/kate-and-allie-tv.html) in its final year (https://flashbak.com/televisions-worst-final-seasons-of-the-1970s-1980s-3002), moved them to a different locale. In GAB's (https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:m0AxhOwXnZQJ:https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1986-05-18-tv-20699-story.html+&cd=37&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us) case, the show moved from Glenlawn, California to New York City. In K&A's (http://www.crazyabouttv.com/kateandallie.html) case (https://www.sitcomsonline.com/kateandallieseason6-canadianreleasedvdreview.html), they had Allie (https://www.ihearthollywood.com/2019/04/what-ever-happened-to-cast-of-kate-allie.html) move into a new apartment after remarrying. Both shows also doubled down on it by adding new characters such as Allie's new husband and Rosie O'Donnell's character on GAB.
Kate & Allie (https://web.archive.org/web/20061031124931/http://www.jumptheshark.com/k/kateandallie.htm) couldn't quite bluntly, hide behind the excuse of one of their cast members dying (like Dolph Sweet in Gimme a Break! (https://web.archive.org/web/20061031123608/http://www.jumptheshark.com/g/gimmeabreak.htm)) in the middle of its run to justify making radical changes.
