View Full Version : If on a deserted island and had to choose between....?
Warm & Fuzzy 07-15-2002, 03:06 PM Staying put- awaiting for your rescue... or walking to a village, which is 50 miles away, which would you choose?
Please note that you've just been in a plane crash and you're by yourself. The temperature is also below 0. ;)

Penny Lane 07-15-2002, 07:15 PM Wow! that is a very large island! I think I would start walking just to keep warm!(Funny , I don't think of a desert island being that cold!) Are there any deserted islands above the Equator?
JDS84 07-15-2002, 08:04 PM I would walk.

Kay Scarpetta 07-15-2002, 09:48 PM I'd walk. :)
Warm & Fuzzy 07-15-2002, 09:57 PM For all you walkers.. it's below 0 out there! lol. And you're not gonna walk 50 miles straight... you'll need shelter too, LOL.. and fire and food!
And remember, you WERE on a plane... people have avaition maps and if a plane doesn't arrive on the estimated time, they're bound to report it... there's a better chance of suvivng and getting rescued if you just stay put and wait rather than walking away. ;) Anyhow, anyone change their minds? lol :D

Because if I did it, then they could make it. Face it. I'm a natural leader and you'd be t he only one left on the island. We'll all be partying at 100 pounds less while you stuff yourself with canned vegetables and freeze to death. If I were you, I'd walk.

This situation reminds me of the book The Lord of the Flies.
If the plane crash was near a body of water and it was near or under 0 degrees than that would make the water practically ice.
Therefore, I would choose neither of options up above but rather ice skate my way out of there. :D
XoVanillaRain90oX 07-16-2002, 09:52 AM I love the cold i'd stay there and wait for a rescue thing-a-ma-bober!

17Mar59 07-17-2002, 09:22 PM Ok,this is going to sound stupid but is this hypothethical island
in any shape or way say Greenland?Or is it somewheres in northern Canada or perhaps near the Antarctic?
I think also that there are lots of things to consider before voting
to walk out such as:What is the weather like, besides being cold?
How hurt are you?Are you suffering from hypothermia? When did you last eat?Are you well supplied with food?CAN you walk?
Did you have some sort of locator beacon in the plane? If so did
it go off when you crashed?Would help be able to find you IF
you walked out?Or would they find you sooner if you stayed put?
Do you have ANY means of making a decent shelter IF you hiked
out?Or is the only possible shelter where you are now?
And of course what is the terrain like?If it is all rough and icy than
the worst it will be walking out.

Krystal Lake 07-19-2002, 03:32 AM Is it 0 degrees Fahrenheit or Celsius?
What is the humidity?
Is there any wind, and if so what speed and direction is it blowing in?
How much clothing am I wearing?
"You've just been in a plane crash, and you're alone." Were there other passengers on the plane?
If so, does this question mean I'm the only one left alive?
Can I disrobe the bodies and wear their clothing to protect me from the cold?
Are there any rations on the plane?
How much damage did the plane receive? Is there enough whole pieces of wreckage to build a shelter out of?

I cxan answer some of these. She told me the plane cashed in the water and you can't get anything or anyone from the plane. All you have is Jeans and a T-Shirt.
As I said before Jenny and a I will say again, I don't care. I'm walking the 50 miles, regardless of the temperature. I survived 15 winters in Chicago. We missed a week of school due to major snostorms. I know what I'm doing Jenny and you can't stop me. :p:p:p
