No.

I think it's not as black and white as your question implies.

I think it's wholly dependent on what they are cloning and why.

I personally have no moral or ethical problem if people wanted to clone their own organs so they can have a stock available for transplant later in life.

I have more of a problem with the concept of cloning a whole entire human being.

Personally, I think cloning pets is stupid, and I'm not quite sure how I feel about that moral-wise.

Cloning animals such as livestock is something I don't really think we have to worry about because it's not wise from an economic point of view for farmers to do that.

The teachers in my school are cloned. I have two stories.

1. Allison, Jackie (:angryfire), and I were walkin down the hall and we passed Mr. Mendez (:angryfire) and then we saw him in a totally diff hallway like 2 seconds later.

I know Jo wants to get some kind of debate going here, so...

I can see some of the benefits of cloning.
What if you needed a heart or liver transplant? Wouldn't it be amazing if scientists using your DNA could clone you a new healthy organ that would be a perfect match for your body?

Here's my whole idea on it.

Life is like a cycle right? When someone dies, somebody is usually born. First off, if people had their own little stock of cloned hearts and lungs and such, we would more than likely live forever. Second, if you cloned a whole human too- it would lead to overpopulation problems.

no, i don't think we should have the whole "urkel" clone where he cloned the cute version of himself... lol, but instead of people dieing from the lack of availbel hearts on heart translplatns, and lungs, etc... that problem could be slightly solved by the use of cloning. People shouldn't have a backstock, but I think in desperate situations, it could really be useful.

Has anyone heard this? There working on a way of building up the telomere's of cells so that they keep reproduceing- this is the way supsodely old age kills you or something i dunno but there working on a way to make people live 300 years + now tell me that's not scary!!

I wouldn't doubt that, but who would want to live over 300 years???!!!! That would be such a nightmare. I can just see it now, someone walking around at 334 and then when the person least expects it their skin starts to rot and their skeleton turns to dust. Then a relative would walk by and have to sweep the remains up. Sorry if that freaked anybody out. I have been watching too many horror movies I guess.

I don't understand why everyone is so instantly freaked out about things like this. Living to 300+ years would not be scary or depressing as long as everyone else was living to 300+ too.

Cloning and genetic research (the thing with the telemeres is mere genetics, not cloning, so keep the two concepts separate) are just as important as any other science.

Just think how things were back in like the 1800s and beyond. Everyone is scared of new technology when it comes along. I'm sure the concept of surgery was ultra frightening when some person long ago first suggested it. Yet where would we be today without it? Some people were scared of antibiotics when they first came out, yet without them, there's a very good chance at least 50% of the people on this board would be dead.

Just because it's new and scary doesn't mean all testing with it should be unequivocally squashed, or else we may never reap the potential benefits of it.
