I was scrolling down another article when I saw the headline, and I was stunned by the news.

Rest in Peace, Markie.

I didn't know that she was sick.

Markie Post also was on Card Sharks and that's how I believe she got her start. I didn't even know that Markie was a girls name because Markie was a guy's nickname for Mark but spelled Marky usually but Night Court was the first time I've seen Markie used as a name for girls. I wonder if they will have marathons for Night Court in honor of Markie Post?

Markie Post, an actress known for The Fall Guy and Night Court, has died following a battle with cancer. She was 70.

Post’s manager, Ellen Lubin Sanitsky, confirmed her death to The Hollywood Reporter on Saturday evening.

Post was born in 1950 in Palo Alto, California, and began her career in television by serving as an associate producer on the game series Double Dare, which was hosted by the late Alex Trebek.

She first appeared as an actor on television in the TV movie Frankie and Annette: The Second Time Around. Post appeared in numerous series after that, from comedy show Semi-Tough to crime drama The Gangster Chronicles, Fantasy Island and The Love Boat.

From 1982-85, Post took on the role of Terri Michaels in action adventure series The Fall Guy, opposite Lee Majors, Heather Thomas and Douglas Barr. She went on to play Christine Sullivan in the comedy series Night Court, and later had recurring roles in Hearts Afire and Odd Man Out.

In 1998, Post played Cameron Diaz’s mother in Peter and Bobby Farrelly’s There’s Something About Mary. Post’s more recent credits include Chicago P.D., The Kids Are Alright TV series and Transformers Prime, in which she voiced the character of June Darby.

Post continued pursuing acting roles after her cancer diagnosis, with appearances in shows such as Santa Clarita Diet.

Post’s family shared in a statement, “But for us, our pride is in who she was in addition to acting; a person who made elaborate cakes for friends, sewed curtains for first apartments and showed us how to be kind, loving and forgiving in an often harsh world.”

Post is survived by her husband, producer and writer Michael A. Ross; and daughters Kate Armstrong Ross and Daisy Schoenborn.

Details of a planned memorial have not yet been shared.

Early yesterday morning, I got the news that Markie Post has passed away.
Out of respect for her family, I didn't want to say anything publicly until I saw it in the press.
But, I was shocked and devastated.

Though our recent communications were limited to social media exchanges, I had no idea she was ill.
But, I'm not surprised she didn't let on what she was going through, she wouldn't have wanted us to worry.

She has been, and will be, described as perky, bubbly, sweet, etc.
And she was.
But, she was also real, caring and kind.
I never heard a cross word from, to, or about her.

Because of our shared love of game shows, we were on set playmates.
She'd call out a word and I'd try to guess the Password.
Soon, Harry and John would join in and we'd have a rousing game going.

You hear actors saying their casts were a family, but on Night Court, the whole crew was family.
I was adopted late, but I never doubted that I was family too.

Markie was a big reason for that.
She was our welcome lady, or whatever you call that person who shows up at your door with a pie and a smile the first day you move in the neighborhood.
I never got the pie, but the smile was bright enough to make you forget pie was a thing.

Harry, Charlie and Markie were a big part of my life.
They were cast mates, co-workers, friends and family.
I will miss them, and cherish the memories we made and shared.

Three of the nicest people I've had the pleasure to know, may they rest together in peace, forever calling out Passwords, cracking jokes and sharing laughs and smiles.

My deepest heartfelt condolences to all whose lives they touched, and may their families and friends be comforted with the knowledge that there are millions of us.

But I had to stop by and chime in on how stunned I was, too. Man, I froze. One of my first crushes back in the day. And she went beyond that. Such a solid and funny tv comedienne, she meshed with that cast so perfectly when she first joined. They finally got it right.

First thought was that Larroquette must be beside himself after Harry, Mac, and now Markie. In just a few years so many of your co-stars gone.

My sweet sweet Markie… I don’t have the words. Devastated comes to mind. Crushed. Heartbroken. This woman. This ray of sunshine. Pure light. And goodness.

Markie Post was a TV icon. Bold. Funny. Always in on the joke, usually before the rest of the room. Always holding a deeper perspective on a character’s reality than what was on the page.

When I lived in a box that made it deeply difficult to be a woman who could exist as one … and … breathe? Markie came in with arms to envelop me and eyes that fired both kindness and lightning storms into the room as she held me, and likewise called other women into her safe space. She did it all with a smile and a laugh, and with more wisdom than most of us could ever hope to learn or muster.

I loved her on Night Court. I blushed when she came to Chicago. To play MY onscreen mom!? And I loved her in our hair and makeup trailer and at cozy dinners over endless laughter and as I watched her eyes light up when she spoke of her husband and her daughters. When she called me an “uncommon woman” I melted.

Markie was the kind of set momma who made you feel invincible and gave you permission to be vulnerable and tender. I’ll never forget that mystical power. That rare duality.

We spoke about getting each of our overlapping onscreen families together. @hilarieburton, @tylerhilton, and @meganparkithere. That overlap!? We LOVED how lucky we’d been to share two TV families. And then life, different locations, and a pandemic got in the way. I will forever curse the missed opportunity of that reunion dinner we hadn’t had just yet.

Hug the people you love. Don’t say “we’ll do it soon, honey.” Don't wait until everyone is “back in town and it’s easy.” Do it now. Make the trek. Don’t miss your moments.

To her family? Michael. Kate. Daisy. The ones she lit UP when she spoke of? The ones who put a twinkle and a sparkle in her eye? Man oh man she loved you. Man oh man am I sorry to see her go.
