View Full Version : Which evil person is worse?
Dude111 08-07-2021, 01:58 PM The one who believes that their evil acts are good,or one who knows their being evil?
I recently watched a vid that compared two different types of evil characters. It discussed the villains who know they are evil,but act evil anyway for the sake of it,vs. the villains who actually believe that their evil acts are good and they are good people for doing them. It led to raise this question.
Which type of evil person is worse? One who knows they are being evil but do it anyway,or one who is convinced they are being good by doing evil things?
I know this is an interesting question,but any thoughts?
GentlemanJim 08-07-2021, 02:13 PM "Evil" is subjective. Often times a person or group acting in their own best interest, appears "evil" to others not sharing their particular priorities.
I think it was in the movie True Lies where one of the characters states ~there are no good guys or bad guys, it's just us vs them~ or something very similar.
GentlemanJim 08-07-2021, 02:23 PM I do get a kick sometimes out of the stagecraft Hollywood employs to make sure the audience identifies the "bad guy" as such. Kicking a puppy, or pushing a little old lady out of the way to take the taxi she was trying to hail.

Dude111 08-07-2021, 03:35 PM Yes Jim true lies is excellent!! (I have it recorded from analogue cable :))
GentlemanJim 08-07-2021, 03:55 PM Some people always insist upon seeing all conflicts in a "good guys/bad guys" frame of reference. And I generally try to at least understand the position of both sides.
I tend too often towards the "underdog" side of the equation, because I'm such a softie.
GentlemanJim 08-07-2021, 04:02 PM Of course, there is a good bit of "stagecraft" that goes on in our everyday world, designed to provoke a reaction that otherwise might not happen. Prosecuting attorneys in particular come to mind as being willing to set a stage that really never existed, just to enhance their chances at a conviction.
Caroline13 08-07-2021, 04:49 PM Evil comes in so many ways and from so many minds...I find a lot of evil thoughts in many avatars I've encountered in recent months. WOW.
GentlemanJim 08-07-2021, 04:58 PM Devil -----> Evil
God ------> Good
Coincidence?

Sometimes real life is even worse than that.

And somewhere I saw a picture of an ISIS thug kicking a baby like a soccer ball.
Janice Johnson 08-29-2021, 11:03 AM The person doing evil acts that they think is good is clearly less evil than the Evil Person who knows they are being evil. At least the Person who does evil acts that think they're doing good did those evil acts with good intentions....

The ISIS soldier you mention likely saw his service as being to the "good" cause?
Sorta like cops who get themselves so stoked up believing they are fighting the "good fight", that they are willing to violate citizen's civil rights to get the job done, by convincing themselves that the ends justify the means
As the old song goes: "Don't let the handshake and the smiling fool ya..."

Don't worry, I'm far from oblivious to this sort of thing. Nazis and Commies also saw their activities as good causes.
Caroline13 09-11-2021, 02:43 PM I'm thinking of a person right now who is NOT supposed to be evil in our lives but I can't find the good in this person....I won't mention a name but perhaps you can read my mind.
