Gomez was asked at the TV press tour about the difference between starring in Hulu's Only Murders in the Building and Disney Channel's Wizards of Waverly Place. “I signed my life away to Disney at a very young age and I didn’t know what I was doing," she said, adding: "What I’d say is the level of sophistication of the material is the first reason why I wanted to do this." In contrast, Gomez says “I didn’t know what I was doing. I was just running around on set" when she was a child star.

The former Wizards of Waverly Place star recently said "I signed my life away to Disney at a very young age and I didn't know what I was doing (https://www.primetimer.com/item/Selena-Gomez-I-signed-my-life-away-to-Disney-at-a-very-young-age-and-I-didn-t-know-what-I-was-doing-quot-k4S732)" at the TV press tour while promoting Hulu's Only Murders in the Building. In a new interview with Radio Times, Gomez set the record straight. When asked if she had any reluctance over returning to television, Gomez said: “No, definitely not. I was looking for another show to do. And by the way, I’m beyond proud of the work that I did with Disney as well. It kind of shaped who I am in a way.” Her co-star Steve Martin added: “I have to jump in because I was there when Selena said that (at the press tour) and it was said in the most light-hearted, funny, jokey way.
