View Full Version : So when Suzanne Somers was fired why couldn't they get the actress who played Eleanor
TVFactFan 07-25-2021, 01:02 AM was it that important to have another blonde?? I like the lady who played elenenor, she was a good actress. If they felt suzanne was not the star of the show then why was they trying to get someone similar??
TVLegend 07-25-2021, 01:14 AM And most importantly, why the hell was she still in the opening credits by Season 5? It was too late for Jenilee to be added by Season 6.

No the contract dispute started in season 5 and Jenilee was added in season 6

Jenilee was added in the middle of Season 5 almost, and Suzanne Somers wasn’t appearing in that many shows that season, so it should’ve been Cindy with a credit. What if someone who had never seen Three’s Company for the first time finally saw an episode from Season 5? I’m sure these questions would come up:
Why didn’t this Chrissy girl appear in more episodes?
Why is goofy ass Cindy dominating the episodes?
How come Chrissy has a credit but Cindy doesn’t?
Why is Chrissy doing over-the-phone scenes?

Those are all the questions I asked when I watched TC for first time lol
Mace Dolex 07-26-2021, 11:51 PM Going back on topic, the actress playing Eleanor was ok but wouldn't have worked if she was added as Chrissy's replacement, her character seemed equal to Janet's personality and the trio needed a different personality to fill the "dimwit" role.

Seems to me if a certain actress was fired, the producers would want to hire someone the complete opposite as her to show she is not as powerful as she think she is. I mean if they was going to replace why not completely ERASE?
Have a different personality that's not dumb

Suzanne still had a contract; if they had removed her from the opening credits, she could have sued the producers. Indeed, I believe she did sue the producers for writing her out of three episodes (and I think after arbitration, they had to pay her for one episode). I don't think they dared remove her from the credits until the dispute was settled.. and she did appear (albeit briefly, in the "Chrissy minutes") in some episodes. Once things were finalized, and Suzanne's contract was nullified, the producers of course removed her from the opening credits... but by then, the season was over.
This was a little different than The Dukes of Hazzard, when the Duke boys were removed from the credits (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BT8DooqoTdo) during their salary renegotiations: they didn't appear at all until the end of the season, when they returned to the opening credits (along with their clones).
In the first case, Suzanne was still on the show, and had a contract; in the second, Wopat and Schneider were no longer on the show, and only returned once they had signed new contracts.

Eleanor was nowhere NEAR hot enough to be one of the 3 roomates.
What do Cindy & Terri have in common? As Jack & Larry would say they're both GORGEOUS!

I think Chrissy's friend the 100 dollar Call Girl and Rita who jack met at the skating ring was both way hotter than Terri and Cindy

Rita was hotter but not the call girl.
I can't believe someone as HOT as Tori Lysdahl (Rita) didn't do more with her career!

I think because they needed another "blonde ditz" I think Elenenor was too similar to Janet personality wise.

That makes sense. Elenor's personality was grounded like Janet. They needed an opposite like clutzy Cindy.
Chain Gang Member 11-12-2021, 05:34 PM They should've found a way to bring in the actress who played Jo on Man About The House and maybe the character as well
Johnny be good! 11-25-2021, 01:55 AM Eleanor was cool.
just1paul 03-22-2022, 12:56 AM The premise of Jack moving in was Eleanor's going away to be married party and she went into labor.
Mace Dolex 03-22-2022, 11:41 PM Eleanor was nowhere NEAR hot enough to be one of the 3 roomates.
I agree, her Aunt Beru haircut was hideous.

Yeah I know, read my post again.
TVFactFan 03-23-2022, 12:01 AM Well Terri wasnt goofy so it was proven they didnt need another goofy female roommate
Dr. Thong 03-25-2022, 09:11 AM The reason Jenilee Harrison was not added to the opening credits in season 5 was that she was seen as a temporary replacement and was not a full cast member. She was a seen as a stop gap solution to fill out the cast while the producers attempted to work things out with Somers.
The producers probably felt that the Suzanne Somers salary dispute would be settled quickly and relatively easily and that things would go back to normal.
When it didn't, the producers obviously didn't feel that Jenilee was what they were looking for as a permanent replacement and series regular and created the role of Terri, which was played in season 6 onward by Priscilla Barnes.
And while they may have gotten another blonde, the Terri character wasn't a jiggling idiot like the Chrissy character was. She was a smart woman, a nurse, and while she could be a bit goofy at times, I give the producers credit for moving beyond the "dumb blonde" characters of Chrissy and Cindy for the show's last three seasons.
Willbo 03-25-2022, 09:42 AM For some reason I thought Eleanor got married. Being a roommate would not work if she were married. It's been a while so I could be mistaken.

When Terri came along, it's like Terri became the down-to-earth one and Janet became a spazz
TVFactFan 04-02-2022, 12:27 AM I still want to know why Elenenor had her own room:lol::lol:

When Elanor left the 2nd time I think it's because she was getting married.

Maybe they drew straws or picked a name out of a hat & lucky Elanor got her own room!

The other question is why was that room empty before jack moved in lol If you remember janet or chrissy didnt have to move their stuff out. Jack came off the street and got his own room:lol:

I never thought about that, but I think you're right.
I guess there was a shift in the Janet character because someone had to be the ditsy one and it ended up being her.

That wig episode is a prime example
BestTVever 04-02-2022, 05:07 PM the show wanted and needed another blonde sex symbol. Janet was the brunette and they needed another blonde. Sorry but the actress that played Eleanor was not a sex symbol. The actress that played Terri posed for Penthouse magazine although the producers of the show did not know that at the time. Threes Company was oozing with sex sex and more sexual innuendo. No plain janes allowed.

I doubt Priscilla would've gotten the Terri role & other roles for that matter if they knew she posed for Penthouse!
So she was smart to use an alias for Penthouse.
TheLittleFaerie 04-08-2022, 02:44 AM I still want to know why Elenenor had her own room:lol::lol:
Maybe Elinor was the first one to move into the apartment and she advertised for roommates and Janet and Chrissy responded.
For some reason, I dunno if it was mentioned or not, but I always felt like Janet and Elinor were the original 2 roommates and that Chrissy came along later

Elenenor seems more like their mom instead of a roommate since she had her own room and did all the cooking:lol:
BestTVever 04-09-2022, 05:30 AM Eleanor also had a baby who would have been a toddler at the time Chrissy left. The kid would need his own bedroom
