I was watching Better Living Through Television this morning and I was wondering why it was in B&W when I watched it 2 wks ago in Color on TV Land, I thought the rest of the season was in color, the episode #6 and it was entitled "What'll We Watch Tonight?". Since I've been watching the continuous episode for that season, the rest of the season was in B&W.
Was this the only episode in Season 1 to be in Color, because I know some other Hazel episodes are in color. No, it dosen't bother me but I'm just curious why that one episode was in color, for that season, where there others? Did TV Land change something? Please Help

That color episode you saw was the only color show of the first 2 years of Hazel. It was done to show off color to the then new Color TV buyers. This show was from 1960 or '61 before all TV turned color but it was bound to come and this episode concerned buying a color TV and so the show was also in color. NBC turned into color first and that's also why Hazel went color before other shows did from the same time period on different networks. If you'll notice carefully, the opening while similar to the b/w round the kitchen table opening is slightly different, Harold doesn't skip backward and Mr. B. keeps his hand hidden since it was broken at the time of the color film opening shoot.

I'm sorry I missed this particular episode. I think that Hazel went permanently to color in 1962, beginning in its second season. I remember seeing Hazel reruns on CBN, which is now ABC Family Channel, and seeing the show opening which had each of them getting into the car. The show was in pretty decent color then, but I'd read in a book that the early color eps didn't have very good color, so the show didn't do well in syndication at the time, but apparently the color had been restored by 1987, when it was on CBN.

I am glad I have this episode on tape. It really was a good one. A real gem that really stands out as a Hazel episode. :)

There are so many great episodes of Hazel in color, and I have not seen it in nearly 10 years. The Flagpole episode is tops on my list where Hazel recites a poem which was a great poem about the flag. Also where the flagpole is out in the middle of the street was hilarious when it caused a traffic jam in the street. Another episode was where Harold forms his own rock group and they appear on TV,they were called "The Leaping Lizards". One other episode is where everyone has to be honest and not to lie to one another and Harold told Dorothy that he washed his hands, and she said that he didn't,and George told him why did you lie to your mother, and Harold told his dad because it was convenient and Dorothy told Harold to go upstairs and wash his hands.
