View Full Version : Will there ever be another TV site again like TV.com?
TVFactFan 07-18-2021, 02:35 AM I would spend hours on that site reading the episode guides for all the sitcoms and looked forward to reading the NOTES and TRIVIA section for each episode
Just found as of July 2021, the site is no longer available on the internet
2005-2021:(
TVLegend 07-18-2021, 02:42 AM No, because people are caught up in “Tik Tok” and Instagram and Facebook and Twitter. Even the latter is starting to decline.

I love TV facts:lol: But you are right, 2005 was before social media which is why it was so addicting back then
At that time my top websites was
SitcomsOnline
TV.com
Myspace

This site managed to stay alive and not be destroyed by social media:wave:
Even though I left for 4 years and came back lol 2009 to 2013

Yeah, it’s a miracle how this site managed to stay in tact all these years.

1960'sTVfan 07-18-2021, 03:21 PM TV.com was originally a site called TV Tome until TV.com purchased it and the TV Tome site was dissolved.
With TV.com now also gone, sites like IMDb and Wikipedia are still around as go to sites for researching TV shows and their episodes. epguides.com is a good site if you just want to see a full list of episodes for a particular TV show you're interested in.

IMDB episode trivia and facts is not as good as TV.com. I still go to epguides
There's still epguides.com and TV Maze.
Many of those other sites sold out to corporations that really didn't know what do with them.
We've outlived them all. Things aren't as active as they used to be, but we still have a good core group of members.

TV Tango is pretty good, I was just told about it 2 months ago
1960'sTVfan 07-18-2021, 03:37 PM I have found the DVD Reviews section of this site to be quite helpful, I would read the reviews to see the episode run times and find out if any episodes are incomplete or edited.
Back in 2009 when I read the DVD Review here for That Girl season 5, I noticed that the run time for the episode "Super Reporter" was listed as only 23:55, this didn't look right to me and I suspected that something was missing from the episode on the DVD. Sure enough, a few years later I found out the episode is missing it's ending/tag scene on the DVD which accounts for the shorter than usual run time.
A few other episodes of That Girl also have shorter than usual run times but I haven't been able to determine if any of those are edited or not.
stevea 07-18-2021, 04:50 PM epguides is a good site, but not secure. Wikipedia has been filling in holes of late, and virtually any sitcom has an accompanying episode list. Many sitcoms on there have a separate list of episodes, and others have the episode list within the main article.
Imdb is an OK site, but I think it was better when it wasn't part of Amazon.
No site has an easy way to correct errors. Wikipedia is supposed to be open to update by anyone, but you have to be really computer-savvy to figure it out.
Some of these sites you can still view archived versions at the Internet Archive. https://archive.org/
I don't think you can search them. You need to have the link to the specific page.

JTS was another great site
RetroGuy2000 07-18-2021, 07:38 PM JTS was another great site
And it was absolutely ruined by TV Guide, which took over the website. :(
BigManMike 07-18-2021, 09:26 PM TV Shows on DVD still has a Facebook page that is updated every Friday. Although there aren’t too many shows that still haven’t been finished on DVD.
gidgetgrape 07-18-2021, 10:42 PM TV.com was originally a site called TV Tome until TV.com purchased it and the TV Tome site was dissolved.
TV Tome was my jam! The My Three Sons section primarily written by Geoff in Australia was especially excellent. I liked TV Tome more than TV.com because it had a better layout.
I miss all of the classic tv fan sites that use to pop up on now defunct, free websites, like Geocities.
And it was absolutely ruined by TV Guide, which took over the website. :(
Jon Hein, who created the site, is now a regular on The Howard Stern Show. He joined the staff back in 2006, when the show moved to SiriusXM. He pops up on the show a lot and hosts its Wrap-Up Show with Gary Dell’Abate.

And he now has his own catch phrase, essentially the new “Baba Booey.”

It was sad when Hein sold Jump the Shark, but it’s good to see him living his best life. He was a big fan of The Howard Stern Show from way back.
Here's a couple of other sites you might want to check out for episode guides and more:
The Classic TV Archive - CTVA (https://ctva.biz/index.htm)
CTVA has info on most classic series from the 50s to the 70s all arranged by different categories that includes not only episode guides, but schedules, ratings, Emmy winners, and current TV listings. It's been around a long time but its still useful to find whatever you need.
Trakt TV (https://trakt.tv/shows/trending)
This is a more modern site, as you can tell by all the ads, and it's arranged much like TV.com was. The episode guides are often a little too detailed and contain plenty of spoilers but they are also very useful and informative. If you sign in, you can also add Watchlists to keep track of all the episodes that you have seen and you also make your own Favorites list which I have done here:
My Favorite Series (https://trakt.tv/users/salianni/lists/my-favourite-tv-shows-of-all-time?sort=rank,asc)

Peak Internet right here. When everything was fun and people who enjoyed television ran the sites. Then they slowly got bought out by bigger companies and ran into the ground. I'm glad Sitcoms Online is still here!!

There was an incredible amount of information readily available. I also spent hours reading so much of it.
Would you like to see it again? Thanks to the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine, I have discovered the actual home page for TV Tome as it would have appeared on July 6, 2004:
TV TOME 2004 (https://web.archive.org/web/20040706032853/http://tvtome.com/)
It might not work as well as it did the first time because a few pages may have gone missing or no longer work so just in case the shows you want to search for don't appear, I have also included them here through other archived TV Tome pages which do work:
All In The Family (https://web.archive.org/web/20041205093747/http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/ShowMainServlet/showid-201/All_in_the_Family/)

Here's another link from TV Tome that you will love. On the home page, there is a list of "Other TV Sites" which contains links to other TV-related websites that were popular at the time---including this one!!
