I like it though my parents and brother don't. My dad beat me once just for having it on the living room TV. When I watch TV I NEED TO HAVE CLOSED CAPTIONING ON.
Do you like it or not?

View Full Version : Do you like the Closed Captioning on your TV or not? RainMan 07-14-2002, 04:49 PM I like it though my parents and brother don't. My dad beat me once just for having it on the living room TV. When I watch TV I NEED TO HAVE CLOSED CAPTIONING ON. Do you like it or not? DarleneIllyria 07-14-2002, 09:17 PM I don't use the CC option on my tv. It's useful when I do need it on those moments where you can't understand what the character is saying. dawsongirl 07-14-2002, 11:26 PM I like it when I can't hear because someone in the house is talking (happens all the time). Will and Grace Fanatic 07-15-2002, 01:58 AM I use the closed captioning. I use it even though I'm not deaf. And no one who is deaf has ever been to my house. I just like using the CC. I need it when I watch the Osbournes. Jack1000 07-19-2002, 02:02 PM I use it because I do have impaired hearing and it's cool to be able to pick up all the dialoge. But have you ever noticed how CC screws up sometimes with misspelled words, or the words the caption picks up are sometimes NOT the words spoken? Sometimes the caption will stay on for several seconds after dialoge has ended. At night though, I have to have it on at all times. FOLrocks1 07-19-2002, 02:24 PM I don't like it on because I am too busy reading than actually watching it. dawsongirl 07-19-2002, 02:40 PM Originally posted by Jack1000 I use it because I do have impaired hearing and it's cool to be able to pick up all the dialoge. You'll be reading along and it's like the captioner got lazy and either misspelled something or paraphrased what the person said. Annoying! Central Perk 07-23-2002, 04:22 PM sometimes i put on CC....just so I can catch what the people are saying because I was watching NewsRadio and the desk talked but I didn't catch what it said and I wished I had the closed caption on then...so I like it sometimes. Kitt 07-26-2002, 08:22 PM I like it for when I want the TV volume low. And it's good for trying to catch the lyrics of a song that's hard to understand otherwise. Also, I discovered that when there's a scene when the main characters aren't talking the closed caption prints what the people in the background are saying. That's sometimes important to the plot and can be very interesting. If not for the closed caption, I might not have heard them or even noticed what was being said. ZeldaGilroy 07-26-2002, 09:19 PM I always use mine. I have been unable to hear out of my left ear since I was 3 because of a severe ear infection. It is really hard for me to pick up what people are saying sometimes, so the CC helps a lot. I do get aggravated by misspelled words and things though. Titania 07-26-2002, 09:28 PM If I have closed captions on I find myself watching the words and missing whats happening on the screen. I cant multi-task very well. jazzberry_17 07-28-2002, 12:03 AM I like 2 use CC most of the times cuz I can always understand what the characters r sayin....but one time when I was watchin an ep of Buffy, for all u Buffy fans out there...it was season 4 finale when they all had the crazy  dreams, and Xander was talkin wit Principal Snyder, the CC was showing something totally different from what the conversation was about and I was like "What the heck!" ....but then I concentrated on some other ppl in that scene and it turns out that the CC was pickin up on a conversation of some ppl in the backround that was never meant to be heard :) and since it happened that time..I actually noticed it doin that a lot! So pay attention...it might happen 2 u sometime! ;) SoFl123 07-31-2002, 12:28 AM i dont use it, i think it distracts me from whats going on on the show. your too busy looking at the words. I don't know why maybe they edited out some things and the CC picked up something else. I don't know. But I wish two shows were Closed Captioned....The Facts of Life and Cheers. Cheers is closed captioned on my local FOX channel but it isn't on Nick-At-Nite...strange. Impressions 07-31-2002, 06:57 PM No, I don't like it at all, but when I can't understand something, I like that its on, but otherwise, I'm just not into it. It innterupts some of the space on the TV Screen, though. |
