View Full Version : Why, just why did they think it was necessary to do this?

A Dukes Of Hazzard and Alice crossover? Really? What do the two shows have to do with each other AT ALL? This was around the time Jolene had to be inserted into everything and Linda Lavin started missing episodes. This SCREAMED attention.

One of my least favorite episodes... so dumb! And I agree with you about it being unnecessary. The guest stars I liked were Art Carney, George Burns, Telly Sevalis, Debbie Reynolds, Florence Henderson and Eve Arden. Those were all good episodes. But Boss Hogg from Dukes of Hazzard? Stupid especially since it was a really DUMB episode!

About the only things they had in common is that they were both Warner Bros. productions, and both were rather loosely based on Warner Bros. movies. It would have made just as much (or more) sense to have Bret Maverick or Cheyenne Bodie on an episode of F Troop ....

i think crossovers date a show. Not a fan.

I actually love most crossovers, but this one made NO sense. These two shows had no shared universe.

I never watched Dukes of Hazzard so I didn't know this was a crossover episode until now. In Alice's defense, they were doing episode remakes after Flo left. I'm sure they were desperate for anything original to try to get viewers back. Alice lacked so much creativity once Jolene was in the show. The only highlights from those years are the Mel episodes. Season 6 has a lot of them that are good.

Exactly, the way they tried to randomly insert The Dukes Of Hazzard was unnecessary, the shows shared NO history. Hard to believe that all these people are “kin” to Jolene.

Alice and The Dukes Of Hazzard

Alice (1976-1985)
The Dukes Of Hazzard (1979-1985)
Type: Crossover

>>>No, you did not read the above wrong, it is not a typo and I'm not crazy. It happened. God help us all it happened and I still don't know why.

It happened on Alice. Boss Hogg and Deputy Enos showed up at Mel's Diner, the setting for Alice, and tried for some damn reason to try and buy Mel's Diner! Again, I am not suffering from heat stroke or dementia. Enos was not in favor of Boss Hogg's plan but being a bit of a chicken and just an employee...

Well in the end Boss Hogg of course didn't get the diner AND ended up with his car filled with cement.

I truly thought I had imagined this but have recently seen the episode pop up on cable so I know I am not crazy. Really!<<<

I've seen Alice, but it's been a long long time. I have no memory of this one.

Yeah, this was pretty inane.

Speaking of Linda missing episodes- what was the reason for that? I mean, she would film a scene at the diner for the start of the show and then sh was off for the weekend or vacation.

Alice was away visiting Flo. ;);) wouldn't it have been cool if they actually had said that?

Sadly, they acted as though Flo never existed :( Seriously, sometimes they acted as if Jolene had been there from the start. I remember there were times Alice referred to Jolene as her best friend, it was just odd Alice would feel that close to her that soon. You'd think Earl would have said something in the finale about Flo being his girlfriend.... I think there was a time when Flo and Earl were dating more regularly.

You'd think the truckers would have mentioned her some, since, according to them in Flo's Farewell, she would be on their driving route in Texas

I hate when shows pretend a character never existed. Especially one that popular. It's unrealistic. Flo was a 12 hour drive away. They were best friends. Mel drove to see her. Alice wouldn't? None of the truckers popped in to see her ever again?

I find it hard to believe that Bubba Norris or Earl Hicks never went to visit Flo.

I'd think they would keep Flo and the Phenix gang updated on each other.

It seems that by season 7, Jolene is pretty much established as having been there forever.... It just seems there was a continuity shift after Jolene came on, like when Mel was finding money hidden around the diner, that had supposedly been there since the other guy before him owned the diner ~I think ~, he found it in the ceiling, in the horns above the restroom door, etc... BUT how many times has the diner been destroyed and rebuilt before that episode? You'd think they would have found the money long before then

I would have liked some closure on the Flo character. The Flo show was canceled in 1981 right? What was she doing by the time Alice had its last season? Was she still the Hostess at that place in Texas? What happened to Flo? All it would have taken was mentioning her in one episode saying they visited Flo and she is doing great. Not hard to do.

I'm not too familiar with the Flo show, so I'm not sure how it ended, but I'd like to think she went on running the Yellow Rose.

I remember once someone wrote a short fanfic reunion that reunited the characters, it was pretty good. I just remember in that one, Flo and Jolene did not know each other and had to be introduced. Jolene was like "Who is Flo?" Alice explains she was there before her, and Jolene was like, "I thought Belle was before me" and Alice says, "Flo was before Belle" lol Flo and Jolene both knew Belle though.

But yes, I think a reunion episode would have been good! I'd love to have seen the final episode be a 2 part episode ~I thought it was kinda rushed ~ with both Flo and Belle returning, updating everyone on their lives.

yeah the show had already been on for 4 years and wasn't based in Pheonix so yes it was odd. Usually crossovers are done to help a new show gain viewers in its 1st season so this was strange

And there was no connection. Why pair a show about a single mother working as a waitress with a show like The Dukes Of Hazzard?

DEH55- Flo never took the hostess job in Houston, as she ended up buying The Yellow Rose in her hometown. L) I imagine she stuck with it once Flo went off the air. Wouldn't have made sense for her to return to Mel's Diner to be a waitress after that.

Correct since that would not have been going backwards in life

I did read somewhere that after Flo's show ended, she was offered to come back to Alice, but Polly said she felt that would be like "taking a step backward in life".... of course at that time Celia Weston had just been hired, so I dunno what they would have done with her if Flo returned

Flo could've taken food orders and phoned them in like Chrissy Snow... a mid-80's version of GrubHub

If Flo had come back as a waitress, I think they could have kept Jolene on as a frequent customer, I don't think the diner had any female regulars, so that would have been good
