View Full Version : Foo Fighters cover the Bee Gees
It’s Record Store Day Night Fever as the Brothers Foo Gibb it to you good with HAIL SATIN, the high Travoltage debut album of Foo Fighters’ disco alter ego the DEE GEES.
Out July 17 as a limited edition vinyl album packaged era-appropriately in a dazzling rainbow mylar sleeve, HAIL SATIN is the bipolar party record of the summer. Side A features Grohl, Hawkins, Mendel, Smear, Shiflett and Jaffee lighting up the floor at Foo Fighters’ 606 studios with faithful renditions of five stone cold Brothers Gibb classics — Bee Gees bangers "You Should Be Dancing,” Night Fever,” “Tragedy” and “More Than A Woman" + Andy Gibb’s “Shadow Dancing” — while side B literally rocks the party with live at 606 renditions of roughly half of Foo Fighters pandemic panacea album MEDICINE AT MIDNIGHT.
The DEE GEES: HAIL SATIN was recorded entirely at 606. For optimal results, listen with exposed chest hair and little gold spoon necklace

Wawwie 07-13-2021, 04:46 PM I love the Foo Fighters, but this isn't for them. It was a nice try, but when it comes to "You Should Be Dancing" I prefer the singing of Barry Gibb, Maurice Gibb and Robin Gibb.
Wawwie 07-13-2021, 05:06 PM Update: I saw they did a cover of Andy Gibb's "Shadow Dancing." That cover wasn't bad. Still, Andy is way better.

Thanks for the link. I hadn't noticed that was on YouTube.
Out of the other 3, I'd like to hear Tragedy. Night Fever and More Then A Woman, I'd listen, but I never was really into the originals.
Wawwie 07-13-2021, 05:31 PM I LOVE The Foo Fighters... reminds me of the mid-late 90s... the best years of my life and my favorite Foo Fighters song: https://youtu.be/h_L4Rixya64
I’m actually looking forward to Hail Satin. Their cover of “You Should Be Dancin’” is fun. I’m a huge fan of Foo Fighters and a casual fan of disco and The Bee Gees, so this is in my wheelhouse.
Tangentially, I’ve seen the Foos live twice, once in 2003 (https://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=71277) and more recently in 2017. Two of the best concerts I’ve ever attended. Dave knows how to entertain.
Here’s video I shot during the 2017 show of funny moment. Yeah, I was in the nosebleeds, but I’m poor and the tickets were birthday presents. I had a great time, anyway. (Forgive the shakiness; I have severe arthritis.)

They also covered “Breakdown” at the show. This was two months after Tom Petty’s death. Dave and Tom were good friends; in fact, Tom asked Dave to permanently join the Heartbreakers as their drummer in 1994, but Dave had other plans.

Speaking of fun Bee Gees covers:

Barry Gibb loved this so much, he returned the favor by covering “I’m On Fire” a few weeks later.

This can only mean one thing: be on the lookout for “Everlong” by Barry Gibb!

Maybe he'll do my favorite: "Best of You" by Foo Fighters!

Even Prince covered that one — at the Super Bowl!

I liked all of Prince's music a lot, but his attempt at this cover wasn't that great in my opinion. Only Dave Grohl can do "Best of You." I was kidding when I said maybe Barry Gibb would cover it. Somehow I can't imagine Barry Gibb screaming: "Is someone getting the best, the best, the best of you.... I got another confession to make...." Nah, this is only for Dave Grohl and Dave only!

Yeah, I wasn’t serious about Barry doing “Everlong,” either. But while that rendition was underwhelming, Prince could blow me away. This performance still melts my face 17 years later. (I’m sure you’ve seen it.)

By the way, Foo Fighters covered Prince’s “Darling Nikki!”

That was great. A lot of Prince's stuff gave me chills, too. He was very talented. He was not only a great singer, but a very talented musician on many, many instruments.

Looks good. Didn’t notice any shakiness at all.

I looked over their greatest hits to see if I could pick one, and I’d go with either All My Life or The Pretender.
If someone has some lesser known stuff of their’s they want to recommend, link me up.

This was my then-seven-year-old son’s favorite song when it was first released, but he’s since developed his own musical tastes. :)

Great song from their (wonderful) latest album. I’m glad they added backing vocalists and keys to their sound. This song was supposedly inspired by David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance.”

Brad, I didn’t click any of your links because I’ve heard them all before.
Speaking of Live On Letterman, you know all this stuff, right?

Yep! I remember watching Letterman’s first show back after his bypass. (God, was it really 21 years ago?) I remember he requested the Foo Fighters and they canceled a few shows just so they could be there.
I remember them closing out Letterman’s last show with “Everlong.” They even made him an honorary member of the band.
This picture was taken after the last taping. I believe Dave was on his way to a wrap party. The Foos had this t-shirt made for the occasion.
A better look at the shirt (front and back):

BRB. I’m gonna go back in time to 1993 just so I can tell my 13-year-old self the drummer from Nirvana will one day release an album with one side consisting solely of Bee Gees covers. Let me know if you want me to grab some Crystal Pepsi while I’m there.
