Fly-by conversational comments repeatedly missing the point of classic TV (ad nauseum):
"Those old family shows were not realistic, they were selling a point of view."
"Everything is solved in a half hour. Right."
"There was no sex. They slept in twin beds."
"Why is there a laugh track?"
"Just think - Everyone we're looking at is dead."

Well, of course as entertainment, the shows can be about just about anything the viewer wants them to be. (eye of the beholder)
Some people enjoy I love Lucy for it's zany humor, while others celebrate the "historic" breakthrough for diversity as depicted by the leading couple.
People see in those shows what they want to see. That some insist upon seeing them as "teaching moments" is what I find humorous.
Even worse for me is when I see this...
"The following program is intended for mature audiences only. Viewer discretion is advised."
....before episodes of "Gilligan's Island"! You have no idea how mad that makes me.

Well I'm sure that out there somewhere lurks a 300 lb bulldog of a woman just aching to blame MeTV because her little Johnny was expelled from school for slapping his classmates with his cap.
So, I guess with the disclaimer they can say "hey, we warned you"?

TV was too violent horse pocky back then outside of boxing the only gratuities violence you saw was pro wrestling everything else was little to no blood and no foul language writing was so good back then you didn't need heavy profanity or dirty jokes or gross out humor.

How many times did a comatose Cartwright limp their way home with a bullet lodged "right in the middle of the Ponderosa"? Or endless conflicts on numerous westerns, depicting Indians as "bad guys" requiring eradication?
Or, my personal favorite:

Those shows are tame when compared to the likes of Sons Of Anarchy Mayans SWAT Vikings and the vast majority of police and crime shows of today while shows of the past were shoot'em ups and fist fights they weren't nearly as graphic as todays shows are.
