View Full Version : Tell us something surprising about yourself

Heres a thread where we can relax a little and talk to our fellow humans, instead of bickering with our political rivals.

Quite a lot of us have been here for some time. But what do we really know about each other? Sure we have our opinions and perceptions of individuals on here, but every one of them is wrong. This is an opportunity to correct the record of your sitcomsonline persona a little bit,if you'd like :)

The idea is to tell everyone something about yourself that they wouldn't have guessed, based on the discussions you enter and positions you take in them. I think that most of us stick to discussing certain topics and leave others alone for lots of valid reasons, but it does leave a hole in other peoples' perceptions of the people we are.

Anyway..... I am very loving and caring to people (Or I try to be (Even if they are mean to me))

Some surprising stuff about me might be: I prefer Analogue over digital as to me Analogue is much nicer looking and sounding....

I like VHS for the same reason and I hate it when a movie has been "Digitally mastered" or anything Digital.... If I wanted Digital,I would watch or listen to a CD!!

Those are a couple things about me..... I think this is a nice idea for a thread,it lets us see some of the softer spots of all and we need that now :)

Peace and love to you all.......

I eat my cereal dry, never liked it with milk.
I don't like condiments on burgers or tartar sauce on fish. I do like cocktail sauce on shrimp and salsa on chips, though.
When I was a lot younger I asked my next door neighbor if she was Cruella Devil, she wasn't even wearing a fur coat. It was after I had seen 101 Dalmatians in the theater. And this neighbor wasn't mean either.
I got to shake Peter Noone's hand the 2nd year I saw him in concert.
My dad, uncle, and grandpa were in a trumpet trio. Grandpa had assumed I would become a trumpeter as well. But Mom put her foot down, did not want two trumpeters in her house. So I became a violinist.

I have never been outside of the US, and the only states that I have been to are Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Vermont.

My friend is a trumpet player and she was even in a jazz band when she was in school. She still plays as well, but not as often anymore. She now plays around Christmastime though.

The only international food that I've had is Chinese, Italian, and Mexican.

I have never been on a plane.

I have never met anyone famous.

Well here goes, I pushed myself out of my Eastern roots comfort zone and got a little involved with a nudist camp not far from where I live, what a wonderful experience overall. Tested myself big time, and met a lot of nice non judgemental people.

Then along the way a bf I was with, I convinced him to go to a Nude Beach near Santa Barbara, a midwest guy with a fear, but he went and we had a great time. Did the beach a couple times. Again, he left his comfort zone.

They say CA is more than a state, it's a State of Mind, and glad I got here 56 yrs ago. A lot of good lessons and experiences I would never had if I had stayed put.

Wonder what your "i would never" reasons are. At my first dinner at the nudist colony I was the only one with my clothes on and finally I wanted to join the crowd and did. I felt comfortable. And we're talking about deep rooted conservative eastern kid.

And we're talking about deep rooted conservative eastern kid.I take seriously my religion's call to no premarital sex. That is why I don't look at pornography, go to strip clubs, go to nude beaches, or watch shows that are TV-MA for sex which is basically another form of pornography. That would be too tempting for me if I went to a nude beach or nudist colony with all the pretty ladies that would be there.

Oh we don't look at is as sexual issues, and religion has nothing to do with it in my books. It's not porn. And I'll add there is every size, young and old and guess what families. But to each his own.

I flew PA to CA in 1956 the 2nd yr Disneyland was opened. Flew to see a bf and then went to Disneyland, this was before the jets and it took like 10 hrs to fly across country. I was 18. Remember that a woman from Canada tried to talk to me all the way.

I have a passion for live music, and I have attended close to 500 concerts.

I have traveled across the US and been to Europe, Mexico, and Canada.

William the Conqueror is my 28th great-grandfather.

I am a MUTT, I am British/Irish, German, Dutch, Swiss, Swedish, and distant Spanish and French (this changes a lot with deeper, more accurate research on my genealogy).

I cannot drink sodas anymore, they hurt my stomach.

I am obsessed with stargazing and can spend hours and hours looking for stars, constellations, and planets (my goal is to find both Uranus and Neptune).

I love collecting autobiographies/biographies (books) of celebrities from the Golden Era of Hollywood (the Silent Era to the 1950s).

I have this weird obsession with women's fashions from the 1970s.

I am madly in love with silent stars Wallace Reid and Buster Keaton.

I also have a weird obsession with women's hats from the 1910s-1950s.

I am a HUGE fan of silent movies.

I adore Theda Bara

I was crazy ass wild from my twenties till my mid-forties; never wanted to grow up. Now I am boring and happy :)

And I noticed that I like to use the word "I" a lot :lol:

I see that you were banned on the Politics Board as well as City-Data!
I can see why!

You are a troublemaker looking for any type of attention!

I just wish TJ would ban you from this site. I am tired of your annoying attitude.

Get the hell over yourself, you are a lonely 83-year-old woman who looks to cause trouble with other people. You bring nothing to Sitcomsonline:rolleyes:

You are Very Rude. I have had a full busy rather wild life in some ways, and now I enjoy the interactions of the net and meeting others online and discussing issues and in recent years the forums have become a hot bed of hate. Don't tell me to get over myself, look in the mirror ...

And Dude has directed me to some forums and it's true some of them are hotbeds of hate and I've left some and now and then drop in on one and omg, the hate.... Have to laugh or one can go nuts .... Bullsh*t.

She has been looking to pick a fight ever since she joined this site. At least she’s been banned from Politics, but it looks like now she’s either bringing Politics into Chit Chat or constantly starting fights one way or another nonstop. And then when people call her out on her rudeness, she pulls the “harmless, nice, old lady” victim card.

And then you always come to back “granny” up.

Bonnie, I was NOT going to post here for a while, but your post is so OFF. I was attacked by MOST of you from day 1 when I arrived due to my opinions, etc...and what I did for a long while was work to DEFEND myself, and no one should have to do that, defend themselves. But here it's different.

There has been so much said by most of you about ME, and I was always defending myself. Do you get what I'm saying, there are a few who have been decent to me but otherwise MOST have not been.

And since this thread is about Surprises in a person, well it kinda a surprise I was born 5 yrs after the end of the Great Depression and some yrs before the start of WW11....

Caroline, I will put this as nicely as I can ! I will use a word my dear Mom would have said ! You tend to be haughty ! We are here to have fun , and if posts go off topic or whatever, so be it ! ;)

You are new here and you seem like you just want to take over , this is us and if you don't like it, oh well ! You kind of started out on a bad foot here with your haughty attitude and it escalated from there ! :(

As you are aware of, I post with you a lot on the game threads where you are quite nice , so my suggestion is maybe you might want to tone down your superior attitude on the discussion threads !? ;)

Caroline13
07-05-2021, 10:41 PM
Well yeah, that's because Caroline insulted Theda Bara and my posts ! :(I didn't speak up really till now! Than TV Legend basically defended us ! ;) So yeah , that's what happened Dude 111 , maybe you want to back read! ;)

If you call them insults that is your issue. I saw both posts as almost life stories vs a surprise or two about a person's life. I suppose I could have gone on with 10 items or more about myself, but I didn't see the original topic as that kind of post. Oh, the terrible sins of the internet. And so much mis communication or not.

Yeah, I should have let your 2 long stories just go..but what is done is done. And the 2 posts seemed kinda strange, so I commented. Live and learn.

Facts about me:

I collect stuffed pandas and Barbies. I have other stuffed animals as well but people know me as the panda lady and for Christmas and birthdays, I get pandas.

I am a huge collector of 70s-80s punk/new wave music. Love this genre, and am planning on going to a thrift store once things settle down.

My favorite candy is Lemon Heads and my favorite candy bar is Heath.

I have a cat and my dog passed in November so dogless now but hope to adopt in the fall again.

Actually, believe or not, I thought highly of you your first few days here. I was content about the fact that Sitcoms Online had another new member. But not long after, you started to show your true side. I try to be polite at times, but to be frank, talking to you is like throwing something at a wall just to see if it sticks.

Now, I’m just going to try to avoid you as putting up with your foolishness does nothing.

Have her come to you with that sh*t, and we’ll see if you’ll be as high and mighty.

Once, again, STOP putting words in my mouth. Like I said, I respect people’s political views, it’s THEIRS, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but when you keep on expressing the same opinions over and over again, promoting it as “truths”, trying to shove it down other people’s throats, do not expect everything to go safe and sound.

I don’t know if you and Caroline think I’m dumb or something, but this has gotten beyond stale. When someone finally calls her out on it, it’s either the “I never said that” card, the “I don’t know what you mean” card, the “let’s play dumb” card, the “I’m innocent” card, the “you’re rude” card or the “harmless, sweet, old lady” card. Then right after, all of her defenders come out of the blue to defend her. Why, may I ask?

Also, she got BANNED from Politics for this kind of behavior, yet she’s gradually bringing Politics into EVERY single subject in Chit Chat, one way or another, trying to pick fights over the littlest things. This is CHIT CHAT, not POLITICS.

I try to be polite and civil as I can, but once you start something with me, it will not sit well.

THERE. You know DAMN well you could’ve just scrolled up and looked for yourself.
Read the first two to three sentences.

Believe me, the last thing I want to do is “attack” other posters, like you falsely claim, this is Sitcoms Online, not “Let’s get ‘em” forums.

No one comes out of nowhere and attacks someone for no reason. It’s not like she started posting, in, for instance, one of the sitcom boards, reviewing her on of her favorite shows, and out of the blue, everyone just started attacking her, And actually, I think you know that, I think you’re just playing dumb and being in denial. Sh*t has to build up before someone can attack someone, they had to have done SOMETHING, so you make no sense. Why would anyone attack someone for no reason?

She started mess. SHE took it upon herself to constantly spew opinions, promoting as “truths”. I’m gonna say it one more time, I have no problem with someone’s political views, but when someone says the same thing over and over again and tries to shove it down other people’s throats, trying to get them to agree or be ashamed of their beliefs, that is wrong. THAT was bad enough, then she had to make over a dozen threads a day, saying the SAME stuff, over and over again. It got so bad, she had to get banned from Politics.

Now she’s bringing all that crap into Chit Chat, trying to irrelevantly bring it into EVERY discussion. If someone talks about buying a product, she’ll bring up Politics. It makes no sense. This has gotten out of control, especially now that she’s always trying to pick fights.

Every time you see something you don’t wanna see, you deflect and refuse to listen. That’s the problem here.

Woke up thinking about a kinda surprise in my life back in the 80's, love sales and finding a product to sell, I can do pretty good. I was in between jobs and thought I'd like to try my hands at selling Toyotas...so I got a spot in the San Fernando Valley and (hot summers) and lasted about 8 days, sold one Corolla and 1/2 a small truck with another associate, working nights and weekends was not for me I found, plus bf thought I was nuts as I was out all the time.

And while I'm thinking Dustin Hoffman and I passed each other on Montana Ave near my supermarket, he was walking reading a book. I believe he still resides in Malibu which is just down the road from Santa Monica. So many celebs are seen around here.

On the celebs, my daughter worked as PA for Rob Reiner and his wife back in the 80's and she did a lot of their "gofor" work and then after Rob she went to work at Jason Alexanders and then the big EQ and she could not get to Jason's house anymore.

Theda: Interesting, I guess you came back from death. I hear about a lot of near deaths on coast to coast.

Theda: Interesting, I guess you came back from death. I hear about a lot of near deaths on coast to coast.

Probably the main reason why I am such a hypochondriac and constantly worry about my health.

I'm in the same club of doing crazy ass **** in my 20s that I would never reveal online (Mrs Torgo knows about most of it.)

I love 80s Goth. Sisters Of Mercy and Fields Of The Nephilim are two of my favorite bands of that genre.

My boss for a job I was working at in my teens supplied the car Keanu Reeves drives in the film Permanent Record (1988). Okay that was about my boss and Keanu Reeves.

I love Peter Noone; saw him in concert back in 2019. His show was fantastic!

Isaac Hayes! This was long before South Park and had this amazing teacher in college who knew everyone in music (she would tell us about meeting her idols the Beatles and how she became friends with members). She got Al Kooper (formerly of Blood Sweat and Tears) to talk and Isaac Hayes wanted to come and talk to us. What a great guy!

Styx: They lived near me and one of the daughters was in school with me so no biggie but still cool. Very down-to-earth guys.

Duran Duran: This was my greatest thrill! Most were so nice and knew who I was because I worked in radio and did a marketing campaign for them. I was MySpace friends with them and their manager and was FB friends with them before most of them left Facebook. I even have their private email!

Jenny Jones: I was in the audience and got to talk to her. She didn't say much but got her autograph.

Bill Maher: Saw him in concert then I bought his book for him to autograph. I've heard he can be a jerk but was pleasant to me. Then again I just wanted his autograph and thanked him for his honesty and he said he was happy people liked it.

Many politicians. Many years ago I worked on Senator Dick Durbin's campaign and met a lot of people.

It's very cliquish, the same people gang up, including the mods. I remember mentioning I don't have or want kids and the usuals ganged up and attacked me, saying I'm mean and I'll be alone. Apparently, I'm supposed to be open to dating single dads, even if I don't really like little kids and if they need money to help support them. Yeah, hard pass.

That would be a cool way to see the country.

The wife and I have contemplated buying a motorhome, even borrowed one from a friend to get a feel for it but just haven't done it yet. We had a tent trailer for a few years, but so far that's the only RV we've had, we still mainly tent when we camp.

That is SO awesome! The gay in me who grew up in the 90's is totally jealous. :D

What was really cool is I went with my classmates and I'm right in front so you can see me in several segments. I remember the episode was first part was Kellie Martin (who was then on Life Goes On, great show), and the second was up and down relationships. This was the first season before it got outrageous.

Well, we were.

Yeah but a certain person has to switch everything to be about them and how they are "bullied". I'm going to try to ignore the person because outside of their posts, this is a cool thread.

Another fact about me: I graduated with my second masters with a 4.0 GPA, which is impressive but not what I am thrilled about. During my internship, I received a $10,000 grant and since I already had a scholarship, it was free money to me. So I decided to renovate my bedroom. My carpeting was torn so I had new carpeting installed. My windows were horrible (one was broken the other was hard to open) so I had someone install new ones. My paint was chipped so it got painted. My bedroom set was old (I had inherited my grandparent's bed which was over 50 years old) so I bought a new queen size bed with drawers and a bookshelf (which I wanted), a chest of drawers, and a nightstand. I then got a memory foam mattress (and it feels so good!). In addition, I bought a bookshelf and an entertainment center at a garage sale. It felt wonderful to replace my old bedroom items and fewer bugs now too.

Ah, that RV travel dream. I had it too, when I retired at 65, and was seeking a travel companion to do this with, a male, but it never materialized, a pipe dream, but I was there. Being confined with a stranger for months, umm...

I did this back in the time of Personal Ads and it was interesting, but a no go. Now one can do a search on the net to find a travel companion.

I taught a stripper how to drive.

Okay, short story long...

In my early 20s, I worked for a chain of auto parts stores in the Portland OR/Vancouver WA area. This girl close to my age, very pretty started coming in the store. I worked behind the parts counter and she came up to me for help, and got to the point where she would seek me out to help her find parts. She lived with her grandmother, and her grandmother gave her her car. But this girl didn't have a license or even know how to drive, but since she had a car she decided she wanted to get a license so she was learning how to fix the car on her own. Eventually she asked if I could help her, so I started going over to her grandmother's on my free time. She told me she stripped to help pay for college, I knew the club she worked at but promised her I wouldn't go there as she liked knowing a guy who didn't know her from that. So eventually I started teaching her to drive, took her the DMV to get her license. We never dated, but we hung out a lot, even went to the Lollapalooza when it was in Portland.

Here's a little suggestion: If you are convinced that Caroline and I are the same person, why don't you use the "report abuse" feature and tell a moderator that you suspect sockpuppetry?

Two connections to the 1993 Andrew Dice Clay/Teri Hatcher movie Brain Smasher: A Love Story - The strip club the girl above worked at was featured (the interior), and Dice's character lived in an apartment above a night club (Lotus), which was a frequent hang out for friends and I in the early 90s.

I didn't stop or anything (I was too embarrassed), but seeing where he lived was a major rush. My first (and only) celebrity stalking:lol:

When I was four years old I met Telly Salavas (my mom was a huge fan), the meeting took place at Universal Studios where Salavas was filming his hit show Kojak.
