Has anyone heard anything yet on when new episodes are going to be produced? I personally love the reboot! I love what they did with the intro, where they paid homage to Robert Stack!

I know Netflix has always been tight lipped about production and release dates and renewals..but if i had to guess i would say there probably won't be any more new episodes.

The first batch of new episodes seemed to generate a bunch of attention but IDK if the second batch did as much. Netflix is notorious for canceling shows even in the face of much attention.

I haven't heard anything, but wouldn't be surprised at all if there weren't any new episodes. Disregarding posts made here, reaction seems to have been tepid at best.

OTOH, from what I've seen on twitter at least, the new UM podcast has created a fair deal more buzz/excitement.

They really fumbled this reboot. The episodes were no different than something on ID. They took away all of the elements everyone loved about the original show: compelling host, multiple segments, reenactments, interactive audience. I got through a few episodes and went back to the RS version.

I also enjoy the podcasts. As for this board, it may not be as well known to newer fans of UM, which is why you don't see as many posts about the podcasts. I know that bothers you, but maybe talk about this site in other places, like Twitter? It could get newer fans over here.

This board is fairly active. We’re getting new Unsolved Mysteries content every week, and I just find it unusual that no one here wants to discuss it.

I listened to the Lost in the Ashes episode earlier today. It's an interesting story but doesn't really have an Unsolved Mysteries feel, aside from the music. But nothing today will.

I think this is the important thing for UM fans to remember.

The UM we know is a byproduct of an ENTIRELY different era. Even IF they brought it back exactly as it was (obviously without RS), the discourse would still be that "it sucks."

I don't think it's controversial to say that, almost without exception, everyone here who watched UM in its glory days did so between the ages of 5-20. That's another element that will cloud any attempt to reboot the show in any fashion (as a show, or as a podcast, or whatever other way it might happen).

Bear in mind, I say this as someone who hated the way they did the Farina reboot. I'm not saying I'm above any of that. And I liked Farina. But what they gave him to work with was a truckload of hot garbage juice.

Personally, I liked the Netflix incarnation. I felt it was tastefully done, and I liked that they didn't have a narrator for two reasons.

1) Seriously, how can you fill RS's shoes? You really can't.

2) Everyone wanted a "creepy" host. But the problem with that is the show didn't set out to have a "creepy" host. It just happened because of Stack's deliveries and overall presence. And even with Karl Malden and Raymond Burr, the show was just as great, without a "creepy" host. I think eschewing the choosing of a host was probably the best choice they made in making the Netflix adaptation.

The only problems I really have with the Netflix version is the limited series size, the fact it's released all at once (which is more my dislike of how things are, today, rather than in years past), and that they picked, across the board, cases that are unlikely to ever have a real resolution (other than the French case and maybe one or two others). With the original UM, you'd have a great mix of cases (partly because you had four segments every week for 20-ish weeks).

TLDR; We cry and moan about not getting anything, then when they actually do something, we cry and moan that it's not EXACTLY the same, even though it is completely impossible to get EXACTLY the same UM, due to time frame and nostalgic bias.

I like the one-case-per-episode format. It’s perfect for binging. I agree that the episodes don’t need to be 45-60 minutes.

A narrator or host would be good too, as would more mysterious cases. And cases with an actual focus. I love ghost segments but the Japanese tsunami ghost episode was HORRIBLE. They should have focused on one particular haunting instead.

Read my post again please. I’m specifically talking about the podcast. The podcast is new, weekly UM content and no one wants to discuss it.

Maybe it’s fine for you, but certainly not for me. It sounds ugly.

It's not as simple as "Netflix UM is terrible" or "Netflix UM is great" because many of the criticisms posted on the other threads are correct...some cases don't deserve the full episode treatment, and drone footage is overused to fill that gap.

That said there are certainly cases on the new UM worthy of discussion. Ex. Joann Romain is an intriguing case with all of the elements of classic UM unexplained death cases (i.e. police refuse to pursue any leads which don't support their far-fetched theory of suicide, and nefarious family members are the target of suspicion). If they have more cases like this one, I'm looking forward to seeing them

The show simply is not good and does not remotely resemble the original.

They dropped the ball with no narrator and no segments. It simply seems like a run of the mill crime show. And the true UM fans know that UM was so much more.

I would rather watch On The Case with Paula Zahn than the new UM.

That's pretty ridiculous that it'll take them a whole year to make reality programming.

Indeed. This should have been a known conclusion before it even aired a single episode. In the end, it's O.K. It's Unsolved Mysteries Jr. You know he's doing something for the greater good but he'll NEVER be as cool as his dad.

You're talking about the podcast I think? Either way, individual threads have popped up for those cases and the Netflix ones as well. So people do want to discuss them, just not as many perhaps, as some of the OG cases.

No one expected it to be the same as its heydey but we also expected it to resemble the format and theme of the original. This is a completely different show hence why using the UM name is a joke and also why the show did not do as well as expected. I am not alone there are multiple thread of disappointment in the new series. I can't even believe the creators are the same people. They really missed the mark with this series. No host and full hour episodes where you lose interest half way through because they keep rehashing and using filler to fill the hour slot. I'm sure Stack is rolling in his grave how they are ruining his legacy.

You're not going to find many people on here who will sincerely argue that he's out there with the space brothers.

Most of them are around the 45 minute mark. Not 60 or beyond. I've said to others that an hour is not that long to sit and pay attention to a show. Particularly since it's technically not an hour. If you can't do that, something's wrong.

Stack was a cool guy who's legacy goes beyond UM. Anyone who knows his work knows that. Robert would be elated for people to know him for something other than Unsolved Mysteries (though that's what most people know him for.) He'd probably be curious as to the new UM. Not sure what he would think of the ghost or UFO episodes but the word is, he always thought those were bulli***** anyway.

Netflix has said Summer 2022.

I’m curious if they’ve changed the format or tweaked anything based on reception to the first season. I’d still like the original music back…can’t stand the boring piano theme.

Netflix should be publishing its list of August releases this week. If UM isn’t on it, then they lied about it being out in Summer 2022. *sigh*

The new episodes, like virtually everything else coming out of Hollywood right now, are junk.

If they would just return to the original format, find someone to dress and act like Robert Stack, and put it on a broadcast network then I would watch it.

Honestly I wish some YouTube channel could be formed to produce a series that mirrors the original, even that would be better than the new episodes.

The list was released today and no new UM. Technically it still counts as summer if it’s released by September 20, but I have a feeling they’re saving it for Spooky Season (October).
