View Full Version : If Three Boys and Three Girls Hated Sharing One Bathroom Why. .

Didn't any of them think to use their parents' or Alice's respective bathrooms? Alice especially seemed to have already been awake and fully dressed by the time the kids woke up for school so why didn't any of the kids use one of the (at least) two other bathrooms instead of just sullenly trying to share their one mutual bathroom?

I suppose if they really had to go, they would just use a different bathroom, but if you're set up to use one bathroom (with your favorite brand of shampoo, soap, and your personal brushes/combs, which you just know Jan and Marcia must have had), you'll really want to use them over trying to use your parents' stuff.

Times were very different in the 1960s. My mother said that when she was growing up with her three siblings, they not only had to share a bathroom, they had to share a fan across two rooms! I have no idea how that could even work!

Picture three boys and three girls battling for one bathroom (with Mike and Carol fighting over theirs) in the morning, all getting ready for school. Putting in another bathroom would be imperative!

Especially with the amount of time Marcia and Jan were putting into hair care!

Particularly in the later seasons--that's a lot of hair! (I could use some if it!!)

Do you need hair? I have a ton of it. Send me your address...

How about sending it to the Bradys' address?

Then Marcia, Jan, Cindy and Carol would be able to wear wigs and the guys wouldn't have to be worried about them taking as much time in the bathroom!

Things were different back than! And they also had "Jack & Jill " sinks ! Two sinks with a big counter top in the kids bathroom!;) And back than basically kids had their shower or bath in the evening or before bed not in the morning!;)

It was actually very common for a whole big family back than including parents to have/share only one bathroom in the house!;)

The Brady kid's bathroom didn't even have a toilet. They would've had to use a different bathroom if they ever wanted to relieve themselves.

We heard Bobby flush it once, when he and Peter divided their room. Bobby reminded Peter the bathroom was on his side of the room.

If I was Alice, I would not want the kids in my room. That is mine. Let the great architect build another bathroom or two.

There was an episode early on where they were going to move. They should have.

I questioned in another thread why Mike built so few bedrooms and bathrooms in the first place. Not a very good architect.

I always got the impression they weren't allowed to. I seem to remember one of the kids being in the parents bathroom for SOME reason and Mike says something like, "You know you're not supposed to be in our bathroom, you have your own"

I do not remember that ever happening.

We had 8 people in the house with one bathroom growing up. The house I have now has 4.5 bathrooms. Most of the time it is just my wife and I as the kids are away at college. Never have to wait.

Could TLF be thinking about the phone? There were similar comments about the 2nd phone Mike put in.

Which was smart because it sure beat having to clean up non-water puddles from six growing preteens &teens and laundering britches soiled from the inside out. I think Alice (who would have been the one who'd have had to have taken care of the messes) would have seen the wisdom in that rather than just hope they made it in time to their own bathroom!

I THOGHT maybe it was when Cindy was trying on her mom's make-up but I could be wrong.... Anyway, I don't think I'm wrong in assuming, the kids were expected to use their own bathroom. I don't think they would have been allowed to use other ppl's bathrooms, UNLESS of course it was an emergency....it just seems like Brady protocol to me lol

With preteens and teens, bathroom usage can go from a mere annoyance to an actual emergency on a dime so, unless someone else was already occupying an adult bathroom, I seriously doubt anyone would have split hairs over 'emergency' usage!

so where did Alice sleep ?

Alice's room was off from the kitchen.

Alice's room off to the kitchen was seen several times during the show's run. One of the more prominent appearances was after she sprained her ankle on the kids' Chinese checkers she had to stay in her room for a time while the Bradys contended what this entailed (and whose fault this was). It seemed smaller than the other three bedrooms but did have its own attached bathroom that the kids were never depicted using despite their own often being overcrowded.

In the movie, there was a connection from Alice's room to that little room behind the staircase, as Alice can be seen looking out of that room and going back in when she had Sam over.

so where did Alice sleep ?

She had a modest little bedroom next to the laundry room. That green was very soothing.

So we are to assume that there was a bathroom available for her that we do not see. Maybe a half bath with only a sink, shower, and toilet?

The viewers saw Alice's bathroom in the episode when they almost got rid of Tiger thanks to Jan's [badly fake] sneezing.

I'm pretty sure she had her own bathroom facilities.

Half bathrooms don't have bathtubs or showers. That's why they're called half bathrooms.
