I have noticed that several shows have used a newly grown mustache as a focal point of the episode. Adam 12, Waltons, and Beaver all have an episode featuring a character that grows one, nobody likes it and they shave it off.

Are there other shows that do this? I assume it is a cheap subject to write about.

I always thought Carla's jokes about Cliff's mustache on Cheers were pretty good.

Didn't "Meathead" shave his mustache off and it was a big part of an episode of "All In the Family."

I recall reading that for the movie "Tombstone", all the actors were required to grow authentic mustaches. Which to me seems amazing. At the rate of growth of my own, it would take me over a year to grow the mustache Kurt Russell had in the movie. Perhaps he was taking supplements?

On "The Bob Newhart Show" Bob wanted people to comment on his multiple day mustache growth. But his beard grew so thin no one noticed because it wasn't very visible.
