There's an interesting thread about possible segments denied by UM (https://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=260068).

I wonder how many times UM was denied permission by the families or law enforcement.

I read that they wanted to do a segment on the Yuba County/City Five.

"(I know what you’re thinking. Yes, the 1990s television show “Unsolved Mysteries” should have done a segment on the Yuba City Five. Apparently, their producers tried.)"

It was mentioned in this now paywalled article that the family declined.

crystaldawn had mentioned it in one of her posts on here:
Just posted my latest article. This wasn't featured on UM but would have made for a great segment. Interestingly, one of the relatives posted online and made it sound like some wanted to have it on UM but not all of the relatives would sign off on it.

Are there any other documented examples? Maybe they could try to do them on the Netflix series.

It's crazy to me that UM never did a segment on the West Memphis Three. It has every element of Classic UM:

1. Satanic Panic
2. Potential for massively creepy segment
3. Unsolved murder of multiple innocent children
4. "Final appeal" type drama: are the accused truly guilty or totally innocent?
5. Extremely colorful characters involved

Plus, the crimes happened during UM's heyday. It would have been fairly easy to find people to interview, I would think.

On the most recent Trace Evidence podcast episode (disappearance of Regina Brown part 2) it is discussed about UM possible doing a segment. It's sad to think of this way but after learning what a litigious and narcissistic POS Regina's husband, and only suspect in her disappearance, is I could see why UM avoided it.
