I thought it was odd that a teacher would want to move next door to his student that he taught at his school. You would think seeing him at school would be enough but living next door. Wow.

I could be wrong, but I always assumed that Mr. Feeny was there long before the Matthews family moved in. What's not to say that Alan and Amy only started living next to Mr. Feeny when Eric (their oldest child) was a small child?

When BMW premiered, there was a promo in which Cory was supposedly extolling the benefits of his treehouse (in terms of real estate) but then got interrupted by Mr. Feeny who he then bemoaned was the ONE drawback to 'his' property's locale.

I imagine that, with both Alan and Amy working outside the house from the time Cory was a toddler (or, at the latest when Morgan got potty trained), they likely chose that house so they'd HAVE Mr. Feeny keep an eye on their offspring when they couldn't be there! It seems Mr. Feeny had lived there for many years prior (and maybe even had had it all paid off and fancily furbished with his late 1st wife's funds).

I second this. One thing to consider when choosing an address is who will be next door to you and it would make perfect sense to be next door to someone who works at a school.

P.S. Young Sheldon has a similar situation. The preacher of the church attended by the Cooper family is now the family's next door neighbor and he moved into the house next door after getting married to a woman police officer which is why Sheldon had no problem with the new living arrangement even though he is a devout atheist.

And let's not forget that Alan and Amy Matthews headed a two-income family while Mr. Feeny had no one else to help with the bills (at least until he married Lila Bolander at the end of Season Six) so he may not have been able to afford moving OUT once the Matthewses moved on!
