I wanted to see Minkus return for the second season as the annoying smart nerd. I am sure they could had Minkus stand up to the bullies like Harley and his friends?

I agree but it seems the shows' producers got the idea that Minkus was too 'Urkel-like' so they dumped the character after Season One (apart from that Season Five graduation cameo). Yes, I agree that it would have been better had they kept Minkus around (especially since there seemed to be hints he might actually become friends with Cory and Shawn).

They also wanted to expand Topanga's role, so she in effect, took Minkus' spot in the main cast.

I never liked the Minkus character. Typical nerdy Urkel like character. He stuck out like a sore thumb. They made the right decision to make a trio with Cory, Shawn, and Topanga.

minkus was far better than those bullies. I liked that he gave as good as he got, despite being a ‘nerd’. this was inspirational. also loved the respect he had for mr freeny. he would have also remained a good companion for topanga.
