When dance music was huge and Madonna was the top singer Jody Watley was a competitor to Madonna when she debuted in 1987. Prior to being a solo artist she was originally part of the group Shalamar and is the great god-daughter of Jackie Wilson. When Jody Watley released her first single Looking For A New Love Jody's popularity took off like a rocket and inspired 80's fashion as well and introduced the phrase "hasta la vista baby" to the movie The Terminator. More recently Jody Watley appeared on the game show Catch-21 as a celebrity player and is still releasing albums today
