Right, she was good on the eyes. I guess a way to keep her around is by saying that her and Jeffrey got a divorce and she finds a new man.

Getting rid of the Brookes would have been Number One. They were never ever funny and needed to be let go. Helen’s family should have been on more.

The sexual frustration and tension between the Ropers led to some of the best jokes and laughs from Threes Company. For whatever reason, the writers of the Ropers dropped this theme. Instead they just offered different goofy plots each episode. What made Threes Company work was the sexual innuendo jokes. The Ropers sort of tried to be a typical sitcom. But the Ropers never had anything to do. Stanley was never busy and was no longer the owner/repairman of the building.

True he was no longer a landlord and didnt have any friends and neither did she so the show was kind of pointless. If Ann wasnt on the show I would not have watched any episodes but the ones with Larry and Jack, Chrissy and Janet

The new neighbors would be a woman who becomes best friends with Helen while also having a crush on Stanley (Helen would realize but Stanley would be oblivious to it, lol), the woman’s effeminate husband, who was born and raised in America and has been living there his entire life despite having a British accent, and the woman’s father who is this goofy, bumbling old doofus type. The father’s wife would also stay with them, but she would be an unseen character who is described as being a severely obese diabetic with anger issues.

A running gag would be that despite being husband and wife, the woman and her husband never have sex, and in fact, the woman thinks that her husband might be gay, even though he denies it multiple times and insists that he just likes to “stand out from other men”. However, Stanley is paranoid and uncomfortable regarding the husband’s sexuality himself and notices how feminine the husband acts at times, causing him to try to avoid him as much as possible, even though the husband considers Stanley a best friend and can’t take a hint that Stanley doesn’t like him, much to Stanley’s annoyance (another running gag).

They WERE going to revive the show, sort of, in the mid-1980's with just The Roppers and a new cast (He buys a new apartment building) but they couldn't make a deal with one of the two leads - This was either right before or right after Ted Knight died and Taffner wanted a new show, or a companion show for first-run syndication. There were write ups in the trade papers at the time.

There was a similar thread on this topic at the end of last year, the issue was not with Fell or Lindley, the issue to put it bluntly was a lack of marketplace interest in the revival. Here's the cleaned up version:

"The spin-off was withdrawn in January 1987 because of a glut of syndicated sitcom offerings, a lack of time slots, and a difficult advertising market".

The whole thing was conceived of in the late summer of 86 and dropped four months later. I would imagine that outside of having preliminary talks with Fell and Lindley, and maybe market analysis the show probably died in a meeting room.
