At least, that would be the impression given after listening to the Go Bayside podcast. It really appears that Peter Engel's shows really loved brunettes as either the main character or love interest of the main character. On Saved by the Bell alone there was:

On Engel's other shows such as California Dreams (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Series/CaliforniaDreams), USA High (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/USAHigh), and Malibu, CA, it seems like the attractive blonde friend (Tiffani, Ashley, and Stads respectively) is treated as the lesser one and the guys don’t want her. In fairness, on City Guys, there was Cassidy, who was a blonde, and Dawn, who was a brunette. Cassidy hooked up with Chris halfway through the show's run.

The girl that Zack wanted for his date when going to the date auction dance was a blond girl. Lydia was her name. Sadly she didn't have enough money for him that day.
